Vernon Carey Retires

wow... he's only 31 years old. he only played 7-8 seasons.......

Unfortunate that injuries cut his career short.

Good player who could have stayed with us longer. Good luck Vernon.

I always thought he wouldn't play anywhere else but Miami after had been drafted here. So this comes as no surprise. Still, one of the more successful Canes turned 'Phin in Dolphins history.

I applaud you, Vernon.

Thank you and good luck to Vernon. I think his weight contributed to this a bit. I hope he finds the drive to shed some pounds and live a healthy rest of his life.

Strange.

It's definitely a weight issue if the guy couldn't catch on anywhere, and even though he made solid money throughout his NFL career - Is it really worth giving up football in your prime rather than shedding some pounds for a final shot?

Yeah, too short of a career, but a good one while he was here. At least he'll be helping others better their football play.

Wasn't he Miami born and raised? Could be he just didn't want to leave his home.

Either way, best of luck to Vernon. No one can argue he was a good player while here, and was a great person his entire tenure as a Dolphin. He'll be missed...

I guess. But you only get one chance to play professional football.

I have no ill-will towards Vernon Carey. He was good, decent at worse, durable.

Good luck to Vernon.

Does anybody know if this takes the dead money we have in him off the books?

It's kind of surprising that he didn't get any offers from other teams. I thought Miami should have taken Vince Wilfork that year -- it was a need that seemlingly fell into their laps. But Carey was a pretty good player. I wish him well.

He's coaching OL at powerhouse Miami Northwestern. So he's not totally out of football. I wish him well.
