This pick alone should get Rick fired, how in the world can he not beat out one of the scrubs we have on our O-line for a starting position?

As I recall, Vernon Carey was drafted to help now, play now, fill an immediate need. Thats why we passed on higher rated players at other positions such as Vince Wilfork, Stephen Jackson and even J.P. Losman.

Vernon Carey can't even beat out Taylor Whitley? Please!

Careys UM coaches privately told reporters Carey was as dumb as a box of rocks and would struggle to learn a playbook, why did Spielman not know this?

Wasn't Carey playing right under Spielmans nose in Miami?

This is what happens when you draft by need.Unless it is clear cut as to the talent there to fill your need then you have to take the best player available and if your Spiel you wont be answering these questions to your owner when your lobbying for your job. What would we have looked like with Stephen Jackson in our backfield?

Up until his retirement Ricky showed nothing that would warrent the drafting of Steve Jackson. Drafting BPA does nothing when the BPA will be on the bench.

Very good point. I completely agree.

I agree. Of course noone knew Ricky was gonna run for the hills on draft day. We all would have gone ballistic if he had taken a RB in the first after spending two on Ricky. DT would have been a good idea though.
Not to rub salt, but dont forget he gave another pick to move up ONE SPOT to get him :shakeno: .

Tell that to New Orleans who sucked two first round picks out of Spielman for Ricky when they drafted BPA Duece McCallister and had no big need to do so.

Also, with Tim Bowens age and increasing injury problems would not Wilfork have fit nicely in the middle of our line that can't stop the run right now?

But if your backup cant get the job done then why not solidify that spot with a guy who could pick up where left off?

The whole Carey thing was possibly the most boneheaded draft move I've ever seen. It was even worse then Minnesota not getting their pick in before the clock ran out two years in a row.

Yes he did.

To play devils advocate, considering Ricky was run more in the previous two years than any back in NFL History and that we had no real backup for him, Jackson would not have been so crazy a pick.

The point is, clearly Carey did not accomplish what he was drafted to do, start this year and impact our line.

The situation was totally different. Ricky wasn't doing half the things in Miami as he was doing in New Orleans. In fact he was acting like a leader in Miami. Unless you were a mind reader you did not see it coming. In fact no one saw it coming.

I am was not against drafting of Wilfork. That would of been a good pick. However I am totally against the drafting of Stephan Jackson. That would of been the biggest mistake Miami could of made and Spielman would of been blasted up until the day Ricky retired.

Jackson would of been so crazy of a pick.

Carey did not. Most tackles do not.

Webb did, Todd Wade did. We were told this kid was drafted to help now.

If he lacked the mental ability to do that it was a mistake of a pick.

This line was in dire need of immediate help, not another Eddie Blake, which is what this kid looks like right now.

they are seen as objections to the rule. Objections to the rule does not prove that the rule is false.

Take the 20/20 hindsight glasses off you hypocrite. We draft Jackson and you would have been the first person here screaming bloody murder.
