IMO, this guy has been great this year. After the musical chairs with the o-line ended... he has been solid. From what I have seen, he has been outstanding in pass protection. And he has been very effective at sealing his man on run plays...

What are your thoughts on him? :feedback:

He's been good but I still have to wonder if he shouldn't be playing LT since his strength is pass protection and run blocking is his weakness.

Houck is proving to be an exellent acquistion by Saban..... I believe we'll see some value from some under perfoming OL for some time to come.

I completely agree. I think he will be playing LT for us next year after he has a year of starting experience under his belt. Thats why I dont want to spend big $ on a LT in the draft next year. IMO, we need to draft more of a pure RT (more of a road grater type)

IMO he is the best addition made to this team by Saban. His ability to make good o lines without paying huge money for top players will save us a great deal of cap for as long as he is here.

Yep. And the reason he will probably be around for a long time to come is the fact that he is living in the best area in the country for year around weather, getting paid more than all OL coaches (I think), and there is no state income tax. He's got it made in the shade.

he came from San Diego, which is probably the best place in the US to live when it comes to weather

It would be nice to be able to grab an Eric Winston if that were the case. Winston has the tools to become a great LT especially under Houck's guidance, but the very worst he'll be a good RT, so I mean Carey and Winston you could flip flop them however you want. I wouldn't mind Carey being placed at RT if it meant an All-Pro at LT.

Imagine we got the #2 pick, and Leinart gets taken #1 overall. Just imagine like say with Minnesota's position last year where they had the #7 and #18 picks...in this draft we could drop to #8 and pick up a good OT, and then at #18 if he appraises that high we could pick up Jay Cutler...and if he doesn't a LB like Chad Greenway could certainly help immediately, especially if Julian Peterson never becomes available.

He'll be playing right tackle next year because we'll need him to protect Matt Leinart's blindside.

if vernon carey would lose some of that massive gut he's got he would alot more agile and a good left tackle for years to come.

I don't see him as a tackle at all, to be honest. I like him more at LG or perhaps RG (if he isn't that bright).
