Vernon was told we will play 4-3, will he be opposite Wake?

i dont see vernon as a pass rusher, hes a run stopper.. i know he was suspended for 6 games his season year but i think he only had 1 sack..

Vernon is pretty strong and agile but wouldn't call him a sack specialist like Wake is he actually seems like a good run stopper too tho. Hopefully he keeps developing moves. He has the ability but we will see.

TMO, he will be Cam Wake's back up. I used to love how Nick Saban had a 10 player rotation with our front four, They would simply wear down the OL they were playing against. They were often a top 5 sack defense.

The GINTS have beaten the crap outa Tammy Brady in 2 Superbowls with this EXACT recipe. Doesn't even matter who is starting or coming off the bench with that group, they are all able to get to the QB...and they do it while only rushing 4 guys regularly.

Sorry, but that was a pretty big reach for Vernon. Hope he plays up and just as important, smartens up.......

Thought I would add one journalists take on Vernon:

After being suspended for six games by the NCAA in 2011 for accepting impermissible benefits in the Nevin Shapiro scandal, Vernon chose to declare early for the NFL draft instead of playing his senior season for Miami. Now, he faces an uncertain future. Extremely talented but very raw given his limited playing experience, Vernon projects as either a defensive end or outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme. Vernon had a solid sophomore season in 2010, with 39 tackles and 6.0 sacks, but those numbers dropped off last season with the suspension - he finished with 18 tackles and just 1.5 sacks. Vernon has an explosive burst - good for a pass rusher - but needs a lot of work to refine his technique and skill set. He started only 16 of his 30 games for the Hurricanes. Combine that inexperience with concerns about his work ethic and the pall cast over by the scandal, and teams will certainly think twice before drafting him early. Vernon is currently projected as a sixth- or seventh-round pick, but if a team is enamored by his potential, he could certainly go earlier. A native of Miami, Vernon could blossom if placed in the right scheme and he chooses to head down the right track.

I don't know that I agree with 6th or 7th round, but I definitely think we took him too early....but that seems to be our style this draft anyways.....

I'm starting to like our front 7 and think with a few more picks and some time we can get a solid rotation on the dine

If we can put someone halfway decent opposite Wake, we'll have one of if not the best/deepest 4-3 DL's in the league. I hope Vernon can contribute some sacks this year, and be an 8+ sack guy going forward. Might be a good idea to pick up another DE or 2 with our later picks, after addressing WR, to get some camp competition going.

Be reminds me of lamar woodley. Well, at least thats who i hope he develops into :)

The only way he start is if Cam Wake holds out.

8+ sack guy?

He had 8 sacks in 3 years at Miami... 8 TOTAL.

I agree with you fish. I'd like to see wr in the 4th and best pass rusher available in 5th.

Also had 20 + tackles for losses. It will take some work but he may make a good 4 / 3 DE. The sack total is misleading. I've watched every game he played and he was VERY disruptive and always in the back field. Needs to add a few pounds and sharpen up his tech for the pros.

I dont ssee this as a High risk high reward draft. The only guy that fits it is Tannehide.

Martin was a gresat value in the 2nd round.

Vernon was a reach and Egnew was decent value.

Im not sure who was more dissappointing to the Hurricanes Vernon or Aldarius Johnson.
