as most of you know i usually only post during the months and days leading up to the draft and FA and usually keep quiet during the season, but i decided i'd get a head start on the draft conversation.
Rd 1. Everette Brown DE/OLB FSU- Parcells likely wants to acquire someone with an LT/Demarcus Ware type game to act as a blitzing linebacker, Joey Porter has done very well this year, but he's on the wrong side of 30 and it's time to start looking to the future of the team. i know a lot of people want to go secondary here because the secondary class isnt very deep, but you can help out your coverage by pressing the QB more.
Rd 2. B.J. Raji NT Boston College- I love the idea of bringing in a big nasty NT to anchor the D-line. Ferguson has done fine this year, but again he is on the wrong side of 30.
Rd 2b. Micheal Hamlin SS Clemson-has good size and 6 int's this season (3 of them came in one game against Citadel, so take with a grain of salt), he's a 4 year starter and should definitely be a step up over Yeremiah Bell.
Rd 3. Brian Robiskie WR Ohio St.- he's having somewhat of an off year, but has still managed to find the endzone 8 times, at 6'3'' 200 he has the size to overpower most NFL corners and obviously would be an excellent compliment to Ted Ginn Jr.
Rd 4. Curtis Taylor FS LSU-gives our secondary good size as both he and Hamlin are 6'3'' and over 200 pounds. he should run in the mid 4.4's at the combine which isnt bad for someone his size. he isnt a complete ball hawk with only 2 int's this year, but he could likely come in and get significant playing time and in round 4 that's pretty good value.
Rd 5. Joe Burnett CB UCF- not the most glamorous name at CB, he has played well with 4ints this season and has averaged about 25yds a return on those Ints, had 6 picks last year as well. his 40 time is cause for concern at 4.48 which is probably why he falls this low, but could be a 3rd corner or FS option.
Rd 6. Ronnie Palmer ILB Arizona- he's a very passionate and talented player who in my opinion has been slightly misused at Arizona. He's a very talented blitzer who doesnt get to blitz very often, could be used situationally on passing downs as he has a good nose for the ball in coverage as well. if nothing else gives us a big body at ILB at 6'3'' 245 because our ILB's are kind of thin.
Rd 7. Willie Tuitama QB Arizona- has a very strong arm and throws an incredibly catchable ball. his numbers are down this year after a fast start, but that might be a bi-product of the disappearance of a running game for a few games causing Willie to force some passes. usually makes about one frustratingly awful pass a game which usually results in an INT, also has a fear of contact (but understandably so, he suffered 3 concussions in about 4 months), but with time in the pocket he makes his reads and progressions quite well and is very adept at checking down. has a knack for recognizing defenses at the line of scrimmage and has improved at this every year. as a 7th round pick and likely 3rd string QB he's low risk, reminds me a bit of a Craig Nall type with some potential and a big arm, but not much more than a backup.
