''If I didn't get the flag where I got their attention, there's nobody to blame for that except me,'' Saban said Friday. ``I feel really good about how fast I can be, what my acceleration is, how quick I am and what kind of burst I have to get down the sideline.
``I just didn't realize that I needed to do that in that circumstance to get their attention.''

Conversely:
This quote from Mike Pereira (VP of officiating) scares me:

But Pereira doesn't embrace that idea, at least not for the immediate future.
''I don't think we have to start changing rules based on what happened last night,'' he said. ``I think this is a one-time instance and we don't think we'll be seeing this situation too often.''

Ummm, yea, I'm sure there will be no more challenged touchdowns this season! I'm sure all other challenge decisions will come with perfect visible evidence and lightening quick decisiveness, within the 15 seconds it takes the offense to line up for the PAT. The fool.

There should be a line judge looking over on the sidelines at all times then to see if a coach throws out the red flag or not.

yes, the judge on the opposite side of the field should be looking for this, since its practically in his field of vision.

I'm sorry, I find it hard to believe not a single ref on the field noticed the flag AFTER and obviously iffy play occured.

I can, he only beat the snap by maybe two seconds and the ref's were looking where they were supposed to..the players.

But he beat the snap right? I don't see the issue! Should of been pulled back. I'm hardly ever one to whine about the refs, but this was completely obvious to everyone from the announcers, to the refs, to the booth, even to the steeler's fans!

That is true in regards to his toss. But he did have it in hand for about 8 seconds waiving it and looking for someone to pay attention and acknowledge it. I think one official could have taken a look to our sideline after such a play in that 10 or so second period as the kicking team lined up.

Was it 2 seconds lol, think it was more like 1 and a half seconds. I mean I don't think this red flag contraversy should take away from the fact that they complete a 80 sumthin yard pass and would of had the ball at the 1 yard line. Nick probably was discombobulated with the fact that the defense even let that happen. If Nick wanted to challenge, he would have threw the flag sooner . . plain and simple . . . its not a big deal and definetly his untimely throwing of the flag didn't cost us the game . . . but if he wanted to challenge the play and was sure about it . . he would have made sure that flag caught the refs attention . . . thats all I'm trying to say . . . was a tuff play and Nick seemed real frustrated with the whole ordeal . . . hell the whole team just sunk after that play . . . we gotta move on and win next week, and all this will be forgotten until we play them again in January!!

I agree with it not affecting the game's out come. You are completely right in that reguard.

Do u believe that the officials look for a red flag? Thats the key to find out if they called the play right or wrong . . . they don't wanna be upstaged by a challenge . . . they say "They just wanna get it right" but everyone knows when a challenge is reversed that just means the officals got the play WRONG. Hell I would probably ignore the flag too if it wasn't presented in front of me . . . especially right before a snap. Nick knows that flag needs to be thrown on the field, hit the ref wit the flag if u have too.

I honestly almost said that ...

So what official is suppose to pay attention to the red flag if a coach decides to throw it, speciallly on critical downs and plays???

Just an honest question not one of argument...

I agree. As far as I'm concerned, we lost the game when we tried to be cute on 3rd and 2 instead of utilizing one of the only things Ronnie is good for and just busting it up.

Thats true, especially IN PITTSBURGH. You know they don't want to hurt the Stealers. But I just thought someone should have seen the sideline between all the refs on the field. It was a flaw that will go uncorrected. A team should have an ample opportunity to challenge. And thats the point of this thread along with Saban's great quote. I didn't want to get off topic.
