Very Funny

We had 3 crappy QBs throw for almost 3500 yards last year in a run first, ultra conservative offense. I absolutely think Manning could get 4000 yards under Philbin and Sherman, especially Sherman who has been known to be pass happy at times.

Blindfolded

Can we please stop doubting this man and his ability.

While I don't know if Manning is the best answer for us or not, I do know that even a 75% Manning is better than anything we've put under center in a long time. The Colts went from a playoff team to the worst record in the league in 1 season because he was out. Short of Luck or maybe RGIII, anyone else we draft is going to take at least 2-3 year to become serviceable. By then, where are our other key pieces we have in place now? (Long, Marshall, Dansby, etc)? Yes, it's a huge gamble, but I think we are ready to take it than gambling on developing someone in a few years from the draft, as there's no guarantees with them either.

Where did you come up with that ESPN. THE POINT OF THIS THREAD IS TO KIND OF SHINE LIGHT ON THE FACT THAT YOU ARE ALL SETTING YOUR SELVES UP FOR DISAPPOINTMENT. I am not doubting Manning I am simply doubting his health. Also if the Colts really thought he was healthy he would be there mentoring the best QB prospect since Elway. I am not buying Mannings health and do not feel he is going to put up amazing numbers i predict 3800yrds and 20 tds. I know everyone doesn't agree so save my user name and rub it in my face if I am wrong. I do hope I am wrong and we are in the super bowl. But to think he is coming back from a career ending injury after being out of football for over a year and is going to put up over 4000 yards and 25+ tds YOU ARE JUST WRONG

No he wouldn't be there mentoring. Luck wants to play now and Peyton wants to play, not mentor Luck.

Why don't you just tell us who you'd like instead of screaming how its not the same Manning and what a failure we will be. We know he's not 100%, everyone knows.

I never said he'd throw for 4000+ yds and 25+ TD's. I just said a 75% healthy Manning is better than what we've put out there. Not from ESPN or anyone else, just my opinion based upon seeing what he can do and what our guys have done. I'm entitled to my opinion, just like you've expressed yours on this. Is it a risk? Hell yeah, it's a big risk. But it's the possible reward that makes the risk potentially worth it. But if we get Flynn, RGIII or any other QB, there's still a risk involved with them. It's not the same risk as Manning, it's whether they will be any good or not for us. But it's still a risk with them too. While I understand we potentially set ourselves up for disappointment if it doesn't work out with Manning, I've already been disappointed many times waiting for one of these "potential/developmental" guys to do anything for years. So why not Manning?

In case you hadn't noticed, he was working with a 2-14 team, and he took them to the playoffs AND a 14-0 record in 09.

Sign the free agents i listed on page 1 keep Matt Moore as the starter and draft a TE AND QB in rounds 1 and 2

Its hilarious that everyone thinks Manning is going to take us to a super bowl. His play started declining in terms of interceptions in 09and 10 he threw for 16- 17 picks. and in the playoffs were horrible. He was out all last year with a serious Career Ending injury. By no means am I discounting what Manning could do for us for 2 years. But A) we will be right back in this same place in 2 years. B) After this injury you cannot expect him to come back and throw for 4500 yards and 30 tds. If you really believe that then wake up. I really believe signing Meachem, Grubbs/Nicks, a LB/DE in free agency is the best way to go. I would rather draft a QB in round 1 even if we reach a bit. I am sure alot of people will dis agree with me but giving Manning 15-20 mill is not going to win us a Superbowl.

You state he had a career-ending injury last year yet you talk about not discounting him for the next 2 years. Is he a cat that has nine lives?

Yes the neck injury is potential career ending surgery

Not trying to throw stones at you but...havent we been trying to do what your saying for the last decade or so since Danny left? We have NOT had any QB worth his jock strap since he retired. Plain and simple, we need a QB that is PROVEN, not just a up and coming/possibly could be/might be/has the potential to be!!! Peyton is PROVEN, and is definitely one of the best ever!!! The main thing we have needed is a QB, u look at every team thats successful, and they all have one common denominator, a great QB. Im tired of us doing the same ole thing of REBUILDING for the future...cuz it HASNT worked!!! The future is NOW...plz come on down Peyton!!!

So was Danny's achilles tendon...ur point?? Apparently the medical professionals say he is good to go...

[QUOTE He was out all last year with a serious Career Ending injury"[/QUOTE] last time I checked a "career ending injury" ends your career Peyton is playing in 2012

I tend to agree with you when you say that it is highly unlikely that he is going to come back and throw 4500 yards and 30 TD's. Realistically, I don't think you sign Manning at this stage in his career expecting him to put up the kind of numbers he did in his prime.

What you do sign him for however, are all of his intangibles which he will still possess regardless of injury, or arm strength, or a one year hiatus. Peyton will still have his high intelligence, superb pocket awareness, top notch game management skills and signal calling, and the competitiveness and grit to win that one last Super Bowl and ride off into the sunset. This is what you bank on. This is what you sign him for.

Peyton can come in with his arm only at 75% and have a mediocre season throwing the ball statistics-wise, but will become the field-general this team has been lacking since the days of #13. And with our supporting cast on offense, top 5 defense and a couple of key additions this off season, there is no reason we can't contend for the title.

For someone so big into data, why don't you look into how successful your idea has been for teams "reaching a little bit" and drafting a QB in round 1.

Your point of view may alter in dramatic fashion.

Manning is by far our best option.
