Very interesting draft buzz from Todd McShay

Banks isn’t changing the soft label of this oline any more than a Zabel add is. With 4 of your 5 starters pretty much already in stone you are pretty much locked in for that. Your best bet to change anytbing is probably Tyler booker. Not that I’m advocating for him with us. I’ve seen more guys than I can count with that athletic profile peeter out in the pros. Never live up to the draft pick invested.
My comp for Booker is Laken Tomlinson in his prime. The SF wide zone did well when he was 5 years their LG.

Zabel was an early day 3 pick prior to the Senior Bowl. I’ve seen his college tape. He played very well for the most successful team in FCS Football the past decade plus. He played well at the Senior Bowl. I can see his “stock” increasing.

However, jumping from a RD 3-4 guy to the 13th overall pick is simply not believable. To me he is an early day 2 pick at best. Honestly, he is a very similar player to Eichenberg in terms of size and athleticism. I know people might not like that comparison, but his ceiling is pretty much the player we hoped we were getting when taking Eichenberg.

There will be at least 3-4 (probably more) IOL guys I would prefer to take at 48. Pick 13 should not be used on a FCS IOL that’s best fit might be Center in the NFL.
That's where the draft media was ranking him. We honestly do not know if most teams considered him an early Day 3 before the Senior Bowl. That event was just when draft media really began to sniff his jock.

The wide zone won’t be bookers problem. He can reach. Miami since McD took over flings these guards. Pulls the heck out of em. Booker would be left in his cleats on some of these screens pin n pulls long traps etc.

I’d be fine w/ booker as a pick. He whoops up on people. He’s got good bend for that size n plays w/ good leverage. He’s not got the quickest feet but he finds work

Watch the LG here. #68, Shane Lemieux. Do you think Booker could not make these wide zone blocks? Alex Mirabal is the wide zone OL guru at the college level. Currently OL coach for the Canes.

You are a laugh!
No, you are. You said you don't want a player from a school because he didn't go to a football factory big program, but then I give you the name of one of the best pass rushers in the league who went to an even more obscure football school (University of Buffalo) and that's your ridiculous response?

I'll give you another obscure football school. Wyoming. See if you can figure out who went there.

Zabel is a Center to me. I'm taking Booker and moving on to DT (Sanders).
I'm not opposed to Booker as a plug-and-play LG. Maybe there are certain things you could not do with him, but he can handle the typical wide zone run blocks, and on 3rd and 1, he is going to supply the physical slobberknocker mindset you want to see. In pass pro, he's not going to be bull rushed by anyone. And it's a $50 cab ride to go around him

I know he can handle 3s I could see a load of an i4 giving him problems if the play side tackle is covered but he plays w/ good leverage so it wouldn’t scare me out of it. He’s not gonna climb like some of these better foot atheletes I’m sure he’ll whiff on occasional shooting backers but he’ll be fine. Where I wouldn’t get carried away w/ him is these screens and tosses we have been heavy in.

So mcshay gives us tackle only at 48 in ersery.

Grier admitting the Paul pick was a fail a year later won’t happen.

He still hasn’t admitted the Eich pick was a fail.
How do you know Ersery couldn't play LG, considering most think Campbell and Banks can? Ersery and Booker are less than an inch and 10 lbs in size difference. At their sizes, that's nothing. Both have long arms. Ersery has quicker feet.

I'd guess Brewer and Daniels could handle the work on the plays where you need the IOLs to cover a lot of ground.
I'm not saying we should take him at 13. Just that the typical narrative that he couldn't work in the wide zone running scheme isn't necessarily true, since SF made it work with Banks and Tomlinson as their LGs the last 9 years.
