Was listening to Mike and Mike and they were talking to Kirk Herbstreet about QBs coming out early compared to kids who stayed for 4 years and he said its a no brainer to stay four years. He than said look at all the franchise QBs in the league and see how many stayed their four years compared to those who didnt and its pretty remarkable.

Manning, Brees, Brady, Big Ben, Rivers, Farve, Palmer, McNabb, Warner and Matt Ryan among others.

It really is an interesting fact. The only QB i can think of who came out early and is considered a good to great qb is aaron rodgers and i believe he came out after his junior season.

Football-wise it's probably a better decision. But money-wise they could miss out on $10-40 million due to injury or just stock dropping.

I've been making that point for years and years and years...

It's not neccessarily about staying all 4 years...there's a lot more to it than that...

A quarterback that stays 4 years in college but did so in a gimmick system that doesn't translate to the NFL is no better off than the QB that only started 1 year but did so in a pro style system.....in fact....he's going to be worse off...

Number of collegiate starts is critical......ideally you want a QB to have at least around 28-30 starts if you're going to use a 1st round pick on him.....but even 40 starts doesn't overcome the system he comes from or lack of physical tools...

The junior that comes out early but started all 3 years is going to be better off than the senior that only started 1 year..etc..

But isn't that also somewhat of an indicator of who might really have the drive to succeed? Locker is going back to school when there's a 99% chance that he will make more money if he came out this yr...

Oh another list Matt Ryan tends to be on but Chad Henne isn't on. :smh:

When will people realize Henne is just as good as Ryan. WHEN!

That's a good point....football wise it's a good decision....if you know you're unprepared for the NFL and would benefit greatly from another year in school...

But if you come out too early (unprepared) based strictly off the money you may lose....you're likely to lose it anyway after you bust...

You can make that money up in the long run by staying another year and being better prepared to enter the NFL....and give yourself a better chance of success....

That's why players take insurance policies out on themselves in case they get injured in college...

If $15 million isn't going to satisfy you.....then $40 million isn't going to satisfy you either...

i guess the point i was trying to make was in reference to Henne. Forgetting his actual play this year, i feel more comfortable in him being our franchise qb since he played four years in michigan rather than having a top ten pick who only played one or two years of college ball

Herbstreet might have repeated this but it's not an original thought, theres a guy running a team that has a rule about only drafting four year starters... I think his name is Bill Parcells. He use to work at ESPN and most of the football knowledge these guys have is from the crumbs the Tuna left on the floor. How many times a day do you hear something Parcells said or one of his football philosophy's repeated on the air at ESPN? It's more then you realize.

Agreed, it's good for the player, but the team that drafts him, thinking he's gonna be the anomaly, is bucking the overwhelming law of averages. ( I argued something similar to this thesis in the Henne vs Sanchez comparison yesterday)

When we get our true #1 WR next year, Henne will explode. That's when he'll get noticed more.

I love that the media slams on kids who come out early and also slams on kids who stay...

Like WTF?

Let the did do what he wants...

Except fot the fact that Roethlisberger was junior when he was drafted and Bledsoe is about the only other one that did anything else productive coming out early.

It is a good point.
