Interesting stuff from PFW to be kept here:

"Most teams assign players a medical grade ranging between 1 and 4, with 1 being considered essentially a “newborn baby†that has never been in a training room to be treated and 4 being a “medical reject.†PFW has confirmed with several teams that the following players have very low medical grades and could be affected adversely in this year’s draft:

Virginia DE Chris Canty (3.5)  Detached retina suffered in fight could cause him to drop out him of second round, where he had been expected to go, and has raised questions about minicamp availability.

Florida LB Channing Crowder (4)  Off some boards due to chronic knee injuries.

Fresno State OG Logan Mankins (3.5)  Off some boards due to loose bodies in his knee.

Texas A&M DL Mike Montgomery (4)  Heart condition that limited him as a junior has forced him off some teams’ boards.

Louisville RB Eric Shelton (3.5)  Off some boards due to arthritic condition in neck.

Final character checks

This is also the time of the year when scouts begin making final calls to their school sources to make sure there are no details about a player’s character that they missed. School sources generally come clean in the weeks before the draft, after having tried to protect their kids during the year and sometimes not being as open. With an NFL team about to make a multimillion-dollar investment in a draft choice, the school sources are more likely to tell everything about their player as the draft approaches, so as not to damage their credibility with teams should a player have questions about his work ethic or character that they had not previously shared.

Here is some of the player information we're hearing from our NFL sources:

Wisconsin DE Erasmus James could slide due to questions arising about his work ethic and football demeanor.

Arkansas QB-TE-WR Matt Jones may compete hard in games, but coaches will attest he has never been much of a practice player.

Florida State DT Travis Johnson acted disrespectfully toward a position coach who was working him out at his pro day, and Johnson was called “overly loud and obnoxious†by some on hand.

Clemson CB Justin Miller was arrested Saturday night, April 16, and charged with public disorderly conduct and a noise violation. His lazy work habits, which forced his weight to balloon during the season, are also a concern to teams."

Interesting stuff, thanks!

One question, Boom, when it says a player is "off a team's board", does that mean that said team wouldn't even take him in round 7? Or does it just mean "we're not taking him unless he drops like a rock." For example, someone like Channing Crowder, medical problems or no, would almost have to be worth taking a chance on in round 5 or 6 no matter what.

Hey, if someone took a chance on Christian Peter and on Lawrence Phillips, they'll take a chance on Richie. (Good God, what is it with Nebraska players?!? How does U of M get an "outlaw" image while the Huskers are raping and pillaging at will?)
