This year we'll see a very different style of offseason.
First Our team has recovered respect and is in obvious direction to be a contender.
Second FA will be something special, because as objetives Saban will be looking for his starter QB, a new OL, WR, and perhaps a new kicker. But the most urgent moves will be to add young blood and depth in several defensive positions.
Saban will count to recover guys like Tebucky Jones, Will Poole, Kevin Vickerson, Eddie Moore and Shirdonya Mitchell. At same time Saban must cut or trade some pieces, and maybe that includes names like Junior Seau.
Both Zack Thomas and Jason Taylor are franchise guys and their names are out of this list unless the trade is something really outstanding.
Third FA will be somehow slowed because of the draft. This year most of high profile juniors will join the draft because rules will change in decrement of potential contract deals, so any junior with high stats will enter this year. That means this draft will include persons like Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, Vince Young, Brady Quinn, Adrian Peterson, DeMeco Ryans, etc. This is will make every team in league wait until draft in many cases.
That will push Texans to wait till last minute to split parts or not with Carr, also will make the Chargers to hurry us and others for one of their QB in a trade or to make a curious signing.

In simple words, this may impact in the way Miami may obtain some key players and Saban will have a unique situation to improve his team.

adrian peterson is a sophmore not a junior.....

yeah there are a few mistakes in there but im not gonna get on his back because its a topic that can be debated on =D

I think what is unique is that Cutler and other types that people have been wanting are no longer a reach with our current record.
I think Free Agency will not be big as in getting many players. I think Saban will bring in 1 or 2 young great players like Peterson or Clements with the money and inject some youth and talent into the defense which needs it and we will go offense in the draft.

I doubt he goes offense in the draft

except O-line and maybe a 3rd or 4th round WR

He says he wants teams to hate playing the miami dolphins

how do you do that? DEFENSE

that may be the case, but you don't fear teams that can't score on you either...ask Cleveland

Not all picks will be offense of course but we do need an injection of youth at defense still but after this years draft maybe 2-3 picks will only be needed.
I hope we go QB and get Young, Leinart, Quinn(if he comes out) or Cutler somehow and then spend 2 picks in the rounds 2-4 with an offensive pick mixed in their and then pick mostly offense after that with WR projects and so on.

Yes, good read. Not all things I'd agree with but fine. The most important thing is if those new rules go through in your Third section. That could as you sadi push the QBs like Quinn up this year meaning, even if we don't get him, we get a better QB because teams ahead of us have more good QBs to choose from. So there's more than just scraps by the middle of the first round. Maybe scraps wouldn't be the best word because we all know who we once got later than that at QB in the 80's! But we get a better chance at a quality guy if more juniors come out for sure!
Question, are those rules going through? Have they already?

This is a brilliant point, something that totally blew by alot of people on this board over the past couple of months. There is a very realistic change that there will be new salary cap/signing bonus rules in effect in two years. The days of 20 million guaranteed for a rookie may be over.
If Leinart, Brady, Young and Cutler are all there, the character of our offseason may change dramatically.

Great post!

We'll need to tradeup at this point to get a top notch rookie QB. We gain respect and lose draft spots, fair xchange.

Nope, would cost to much.
