Well I think this can make an impact on how the season goes for us in a big way.... why? Because we all know who would love to add another talented star to their roster.. the patroits. They probably would use him against us and the league very well with a showcase of Vick, Welker,Moss and their own wildcat plays. I believe we should try our best to sign him just to make sure the Pats don't get him and another incredible talented player like White doesn't make us any worst, can only make us better. That's why i dont understand when people say we already have a Vick in White... no their two different players. And with two amazing talents like that who knows what kind of plays we could make.
By the way I herd this on ESPN this morning.

I haven't seen Matt Jones play all that much, but he did a number on us a year or 2 ago. If we didn't have Pat White I be interested in signing him- huge WR with major speed and a former who ran the ball very well. I'm surprised that he hasn't been picked up yet, he seems to have turned his life around a bit. I still see an upside in him.

As for Vick- again if we didn't have White maybe he would be considered. He still has a major hurdle to overcome- Roger Goodell.

Oh yeah man.. ive been seeing the talent in Jones since he came in the league. He just has that ability.. seems like hes always better than the person guarding him. I would love to pick him up real good hands, awesome speed and would be perfect with pennington in the red zone.

Someone is going to pick up Vick but I bet you it's not going to be anyone in the AFC East.

And, Matt Jones makes Derek Hagan look like Oronde Gadsden...So we should not be looking to pick him up. Our receivers are better than Matt Jones will ever be.

Yeah..that Matt Jones. What a world beater he is. So good nobody has picked him up yet.

I haven't seen enough of him to have a firm opinion, but he lit us up good.

Four season in the NFL and you haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion? Wow. Ok, here's some fast facts;

4 Years in the NFL.
Never topped 800 yards receiveing
Never started more than 10 games.
Has only appeared in 16 games once in his career
Kicked off the team for drug use.
Never has had more than 5 TDs in a season, and, that only once.

What else is it you need to know?

Easy on the morning coffee there, sparky. He was good enough to be a 1st round pick. He's 6-6, about 240 and ran about a 4.3 40. He's an excellent athlete and was a great dual threat college QB. If he had topped 800 yard receiveing and had more than 5 TD's he probably wouldn't be availabe. As I alluded to before, he was good enough to make our secondary look silly a couple of years ago. Hopefully his drug/personal issues are in the past. It's a free agent, low cost play scenario, not a trade or investing big money in a FA, a la Wilford. At this point I'd take a flyer on Jones over Wilford and his big salary any day.

The Fins can't worry about who the other teams may or may not pick up , if we could benifit picking someone up,great but not just to prevent someone espesially if the player is going to be a distraction -lets keep on course and pass on Vick.

Yes. He was good enough to be a first round pick. So was Tony Mandrich. Do you need a list of all the first round busts? Just because somone was stupid enough to draft a guy in the first round, does not make him good. Just look back at all the Dolphins first rounders.

You're right on one thing; If he had produced at his position, he probably wouldn't be availiable. Also, if he hadn't have done drugs then violated his parole, he probably wouldn't be availiable.

As I said before; Ray Lucas made our whole team look silly. Jay Fiedler did too. Matter of fact, Jay Fiedler played for the same team as Jones. The Fiedler aquisition set this franchise back years. The Lucas aquisition was little better.

There is a reason Matt Jones has not been picked up by anyone.

He's not good and he's a character case.

Why are people insisting on trying out the hoods of the league? Why would you want that for your team let alone for your young fans? The last thing I'd like to see is some kid wearing a Jones/Vick Dolphins jersey, second/third/fourth chances just because of some skill. How about the fact that there's tonnes of players that have skill and never committed a crime, they just bust their butts to make a living playing a great game not believing their higher placed on this earth then the rest of us, let's keep after them instead.

I'd rather read all the old trade for this and that guy threads then these silly sign the next criminal because he might still have something to offer besides his criminal record. Just think how great it would be to see on ESPN the night of the superbowl we're about to play in and M.Jones is arrested for buying coke off a undercover agent and Vick caught scouting out the local dog pounds. Just what we need, where do we sign up for that!

In terms of his potential I'm factoring in that he's a QB/WR convert, he's still just learning. So what's the opportunity cost of singning him as a FA? Not much. We have Patrick Turner, so the Jones thing is more of an idle thought than anything else re: getting a big WR. Same for Pat White being here re: the wildcat, if not I'd be more intrigued. Jones might be looking at a suspension, I'm not sure. That might be limiting interest in him now.

He's got 166 catches, 15 TD's and over 2100 yards in four years at a new position. That's not really all that bad for a guy that can be picked up off of the street at a low cost.

Ted Ginn after 2 years:

90 receptions, 4 TD, 1210 yards.

Do the math, did Ginn look all that much better, if at all? Ginn will have to step it up to even get close to Jones' TD total, the rest of the numbers are relativley comparable. And we're talking about a potential low cost free agent, not a guy to throw money at.

p.s. I was at the game where Ray Lucas imploded, one of the ugliest things that I've seen on a football field. After that game he was DOA.

As somebody else mentioned, it's not too smart to add someone just so a team can't have them. As it is, it's gonna be tough to hold on to the guys we really need on the 53 man roster...wasting a spot on Vick would only make it worse.
Also, I doubt anyone jumps on Vick too quickly. Goodell still hasn't laid punishment down...and I'm fairly certain it's gonna be a doosie.
