The defensive tackle position has been talked about quite a bit during the offseason. Now, Miami appears to have two pretty talented young guys who could challenge and perhaps make the position a strength in the future. We are hearing some good things about both guys early on in camp reports. Of course while it appears the sky could be the limit for one or both, the possibility exists that neither even makes the team or an impact.

The question is do you think both will make the team based on some of their document troubles? Will both make the team and get significant playing time? What is your expectation for these first year players as a fan?

they could look better then they are due to the horriblness of Miami's offensive line. We will see how one of them plays against the Bears.

I think both will make the team but I don't think that either will have a big impact this year barring injuries. But in the next 2-3 years I think they could both become decent backups then starters eventually but its really much much much too early to tell yet.

If you've read the camp reports, the line has not been horrible.

Stop basing everything off of last year. Go check out Jason Cole's Q + A session at the Miami Herald. Even he says he's impressed with the o-line so far.

I think they are getting good marks because we were not expecting much out of them. So right now they are in a postion to impress us.

Only one of them will be cut if one of them is cut at all. I think Wright will make it onto the team and I think he will be a Pro Bowl DT one day. Had he been academically eligible this college season and had a good year he would have been picked higher than both USC DT's who went this year. He has a lot of potential that will be realised with Saban.

I think there's a strong possibility that both will get a lot of playing time by the end of the year. That's if they don't get in Saban's dog house early. But with Chester a big question mark and Traynor probably a one year fix, I think Saban will want to see what these guys plus Romero can contribute.

Josh Shaw is also reportedly having a good camp so far. Shaw played for Saban at Michigan State, so maybe he is reaching back to his MSU days when he was a good prospect.

The thing is...we have 3 or 4 "mediocre" DT's who are playing good. They've stepped up but we still need more...I am impressed with Vickerson but I think Manny will be a star in the future...a shame his camp had to end after the crying and before he wowed us though.

Who said his camp was over?

He's going to be out for another week, maybe a week and a half.

Last time I checked, the season didn't start till September 11th.

The name sounds familiar, but I can't place him. If Saban knows him, though, he might have a shot at making the team. I really wouldn't be too surprised to see two young guys starting at DT maybe halfway through the year.

I believe both make the team. I also dont see much playing time for either of them but for this to be a developmental year for them. I think both have talent with Wright having more. There is always a chance of injury and one seeing his way in the lineup more often. With Traylor, Holliday, Romero, Zgonina, Chester if he can get healthier rotating out it makes it difficult for them to see that much time.

Im excited about Shaw too. He's wearing Timbo's old number so he better not suck!!

I believe someone else mentioned Josh Shaw as well. With Carter, a healing Chester and the development of Wright and Vickerson you are right that DT could be a strength very soon on this team. However, with Shaw playing well and Vickerson's slow start (although he picked things up since the first couple of practices or just prior to TC start), one or the other could end up on the PS for a year, particularly if Chester comes back before the end of camp. It's again a numbers situation for both of those guys, but I would think that Wright has the advantage right now...
