VIDEO: Should Tannehill start Week 1?

As of today I definitely feel he should sit for 1 full season... whoever comes out of training camp as the better QB between Garrard and Moore should start regardless of how Tannehill does.

Very good discussion. i always liked Jeff D. when he worked down here and the there guys on the panel were right on target. Good find.

I’m kind of in the let him sit for a year camp but if he demonstrates poise and leadership and performs at a competitive level, why not let him start? Unless Moore performs at a very high level, the reigns will most likely be handed to Thill next season anyway.

Ryan shouldnt even sniff the field for at least a year.

disagree.. If the coach feels he can play and he is beating them at practice why not let him start.. we picked him at #8 right?? so what if he struggles his first year.. he is a rookie that happens. I like moore but him or garrard would not make us contenders anyways make this year for tannehill to start getting game experience.

Not in Miami. The fans will be too quick to call him a "bust" if he's not playing at a Dan Marino level his rookie season. Mark my words.

With only 19 starts at the collegiate level, there is no way I would let him see the field. Rushing him may hurt his development, letting him sit for a year will not.

I leave it up to the coaches. I think if the performance in pre-season/training camp is equal among all quarterbacks Tannehill should get the nod. Might as well start the development as early as possible.

sigh it's easy to get swept up in the good news and to get tempted into throwing this kid into the fire this year, and to buy into the "if they don't bite as pups...." and finally the if this kid is as mentally tough as we all hope he is, a few losses and bad games as a rookie won't hurt him. That being said my heart says he'd be better off sitting one season before taking the field.

Let the competition decide. I think the biggest mistake would be making a decision without letting it play out in camp. Tannehill is going to look good in camp. Given the familiarity with Sherman's system, he may very well look better than Garrard or Moore, and if so, you have to reward him. I think Tannehill has the mental make-up to handle the pressure of being a rookie starter, and benefit from being thrown to the fire, rather than being hindered.

This guy should be given the chance to start based on how he does in camp. The best player should play and if he is that then what's the problem? I don't know how folks can say he shouldn't play when the competition has not even started yet.
