VIDEO: Should Tannehill start Week 1?

Maybe I misunderstood those guys, but did they say "why put off his development, they should start him"? How is sitting for a year on an NFL team and learning putting off development?

Just like driving a car there is only so much you can learn from books or watching someone else drive. Sooner or later you have to get behind the wheel to really learn how to drive.

his prior knowledge of the offense gives the dolphins their best chance to win now.play him now he may not be cam newton but he just might keep us from drafting in the top 10 again

I'd rather draft top ten than top 20. whats the difference? you miss the playoffs either way. hell, sign columbo again that way we know we'll be dead last

He knows the playbook so I say Let him play. Many rookies did fine with starting right away...But with that said I don't think Tannehill is going to wow anyone this year either. We are in a tough division with teams that can make QB's have a bad day in the Jets and Bills. Bills on a good day make Brady look obsolete.

Rodgers was 6-10 I believe his first year...I wouldn't be surprised to see the same type of production. He has the talent so let him learn, but it WON"T hurt him to feed him to the wolves early, only quicken his development.

Let the best man start. I mean the guy that after the pre-seaon is the most game ready. If its Tannehill great. If not, that could be good or bad. If the organization does expect him to compete at a very high level and he does not, we are in trouble. But having him sit would be fine with me.
Many of you are forgetting Moore. He has been the best one since Marino with the exception of Pennington. Moore did a very good job last year and I expect him to start. If both Moore and Garrard cannot grasp this college scheme right away then we have another problem.
In fact, I think Moore has enough talent to take the team to a playoff game. Maybe even further.

Ps.....Jeff Darlington is a slacker! See my signature line.

I think you have to wait and see how he looks not only in training camp but also in preseason games. Thill is gonna get alot of playing time the first preseason game and I think you evaluate him after that. If he blows away the 3rd/4th stringer's in the first preseason game he should play against the 2nd stringer's in the 2nd game. If he falters leave him at #3 on the depth chart behind Moore and Girrard for development.

If he play's well against the 2'nd stringer's in the 2nd preseason game and continues to show leadership/development in TC I say let him play at least a quater against the 1st stringers in the 3rd preseason game. If he plays well in the 3rd preseason game and continues to show development name him the starter if not put him at # 2 on the depth chart and try to get whatever you can for Moore/Girrard on the trading block as some team will be looking for QB depth.

There are a ton of scenario's that could play out which would show Thill has EARNED the starting QB job and not just had it given to him, but there is one thing for sure, after only 1 weekend of rookie TC it is still way to early to tell.

Trading Moore or Garrard would be a mistake regardless of how well Tannehill plays. Unless either of them flop. They will not flop as both have enormous potential and have proved they belong. Either could be starters on other teams. We are loaded at QB at this moment IMO.

Not sure how much development he'll get when he already knows most of the playbook. Most qbs coming out of college don't have that going for them so they have to spend the year learning all the reads. What Tanny is going to need is to get familiar with the speed of the game and he's not going to get that holding a clipboard. As long as we protect him physically, I say play him and let him learn from actual game experience.

anyone who thinks moore is any good should be discredited. Obviously nobody inside our organization thinks that way, obviously the cowboys didn't and neither did the panthers. He's a back up. At best he's a game manager but that doesn't win anymore in the NFL.

loaded at qb huh? Name 10 teams either of those two could start for right now.

Garrard? this guy is already behind the 8 ball, sitting Tannehill does him no good, he already knows the offense, if you sit him he is essentially a rookie next year with rookie skills, that's why I say play the kid and get rid of Garrard and stick with Moore as a backup.

Sit back and watch for a while. If we have another horrible start and are out of contention, get some live reps in games 13 and up. IMO

It was an OK discussion until they implied that the offense they ran at A&M was a typical spread Big12 offense. They indeed had spread and read option elements but make no mistake that offense was based heavily on the west coast scheme. Gruden said it best when he told Tannehill in his special that he was pretty much the only QB he watched with extensive video of him throwing a full array of NFL outs and comebacks as well as 7-step drops.

It's these blowhards' jobs to know what kind of offense he played in. This crap is unacceptable.
