Vikings | Childress says Culpepper all about the money
Fri, 17 Mar 2006 21:41:42 -0800
Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports in Friday's edition, March 17, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, first-year Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said what QB Daunte Culpepper was seeking was more money and lots of it. "Somewhere there is a buy-in factor. I just didn't think that was the case," Childress said. "Right from the beginning. As I mentioned, I never had a conversation with him about this football team. It was always about what he needed financially and money. I never heard team, I always heard me and I and, 'I need $10 million. I'm a $10 million-dollar-a-year quarterback.'"

Why would he restructure for us if all he wanted was the money,Childress sounds like a kid...

Culpepper isn't even that highly paid for a quarterback, I am not even sure if he has a top 10 qb salary.

i think childress is gonna be an awful head coach...they say he is a great offensive mind but he never even called plays for philly...he sounds like an idiot...

He's hardly an idiot. In fact, he's going to be a hell of a head coach. He is taking over a program that was trashed by the prior ownership and coaching staff, though. The well was poisoned, and the best way to turn the corner was for him to get rid of a player who was all about the money and having fun. That doesn't mean that the player in question is incapable of turning a corner and rediscovering what it means to be a real football player. It just means that he had a history in that city and everybody was best off with a fresh start.

Childress is an idiot. Good luck to Minnesota on that. He doesn't know Cullpepper from my grandmother.

I think Culpepper meant that if he was to stay in Minnesota they better pay him a lot more in compensation because the organization sucks. Once he came here he respected the organization because he realizes he can do something Minnesota will not do for a long time, win a super bowl!

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great minds DO think alike.:rawk:

Such revisionist history tripe from childress.

Daunte was offering to redo his contract with the Vikings to add MORE room under the salary cap... but the Vikings were too busy shopping Daunte around secretly to bother.

The Vikings wanted Daunte gone, and they got what they wanted. But this silliness from Childress is just PR. If Daunte comes to Miami and wins... they want their fans to think they had no choice but to trade Daunte.

Such a terrible organization top to bottom. And the cheapest outfit in the NFL. They were 23 million under the salary cap and Daunte was offering to redo his deal to give them even more room to go get FA. But no, they choose to run him out of town instead... and paint a picture of him as the bad guy fro good measure.

What a joke of a team.

The thing that kills me is that he is now a HC who has to put in 23 hour days every day for the rest of his HC career and he wants to attract attention to this? Why on earth would you want to talk about something like this to the media when you have all theses other things going on?

The answere is that he has to cover his *** on the deal and show fans the reasons why he did what he did. What Daunte was really saying is I want out of here. Just like Mularky wanted out of Buffalo cus everything changed way too much. If Daunte were truly all about Money, then why did Brees sign a much bigger deal? Childress is showing a weakness if you ask me as a HC.

First off, did Childress ever think that perhaps Culpepper just wanted out of Minnesota so he intentionally made it all about money!! Secondly, no matter what the case may be, Childress should've kept his mouth shut. I don't believe in coaches bad mouthing players or vice versa. Unless of course they're defending themselves. Nevertheless, he should focus on improving the Vikings not whether Daunte wanted more $$$$$$

It's obviously a load of crap. If it were true, Daunte wouldn't have restructured his contract and would be demanding to be paid $10 million a year.
What Childress can't handle is that Daunte just didn't want to play for him in Minnesota. It's a blow to his ego, so he's lashing out in a very childish manner.
