Vikings will offer 2nd rounder for Schaub

According to the St Paul Pioneer Press the Vikings will offer a second round pick and possibly Brad Johnson to the Falcons for Quarterback Matt Schaub.

If the Vikings make this offer, the Falcons would have to give it serious consideration. A high 2nd round pick would be great value for Schaub.

I don't like to make concrete proclamations for the practical matter that it might come back to bite me in the ace, but the Falcons will not accept that offer.

Lots of teams, including the Vikings, offered a second round pick for Shaub last year. We were reportedly one of those teams.

Not possible, Schaub is tendered and it will take a 1st and a 3rd. Even Spielman isn't that stupid....

The tender would only come into play if the Vikings tried to sign him outright, however the Falcons can trade him for whatever they wish.

Falcons | Team will tender Schaub

ESPNews reports Atlanta Falcons restricted free agent QB Matt Schaub will be tendered a one-year qualifying offer of more than $2.35 million by the team. Should another team sign Schaub away from the Falcons, they would receive a first- and third-round pick in return.

I don't think the Falcons will take anything less...they know they're screwed with Ron Mexico at the helm.

I agree, especially since any team that signs him as a RFA would have to give up a 1st and a 3rd. However, I doubt that any team will do that, so Schaub will remain a Falcon.

I wonder how long Atlanta's patience with Michael Vick continues. I don't think the experiment with RB-as-QB has proven particularly successful.

pretty much what he said.

This trade makes perfect sense IMO. Matt Schaub is a West Coast Offense quarterback, and he operates it better than Vick. Brad Childress runs the WCO. Should be a solid pick-up for the Vikings, not many quarterbacks can run that offense effectively. Viking fans should be excited.

They would be excited if there was a chance of it happening. Schaub hasn't really shown much in his career yet, a good game and a 1:1 TD/Int ratio. There are a lot of question marks surrounding him and the price tag is awfully steep. Very unlikely scenario.

I'm not going to say it will or won't happen but I have never understood why people love Shaub so much.

The guy has never won a game he started, and has a 1:1 TD/INT ratio like you said. He had one great game, but again he LOST. Even guys like AJ Feeley have had one good game in their career. I wouldn't trade a 3rd or 4th for the guy, let alone a 2nd.

I dont think it matters. We all know Scaub is a solid backup. He's shown flashes of skill in pre season, and its obvious the Falcon's trust him in this role. There are plenty of veteran qbs out there that they could've persued as a back up (Bledsoe, Green, etc) but they didn't. They tendered Schaub in the hopes that someone will be stupid enough to trade a 1st and a 3rd, or if not, keep a solid back up that will start a few games gauranteed next year.
