Volin: Does the NFL Really Have a QB Crisis

I understand and agree with this notion.

However, how long do you give Tannenhill to prove he can win a big game? Last two years he basically choked when the playoffs were on the line.

He is terrible against AFC East teams.

He did terrible again inter-conference games in college and never could come up big in clutch games.

At what point do you say he can destroy terrible teams but falters against big ones. I mean I have yet to see him in a big spotlight game even do what Chad Henne did against the Jets on prime time.

makes a lot of sense but i still can't help but be impatient. its irrational but i can't help myself.

I think it would be six years based on this article which is perfect because that is all they are really committed to based on his contract.

Plus, I do not disagree with you that he needs to play much better in the 4th and against division opponents. He must get better there.

6 years is a long time for a return on your investment...

I mean, I really like Tannenhill. I think he is a fantastic prospect with a ceiling that very few have in this league. But I also face reality and realize that he cannot come through in the clutch and that may be his downfall. I mean, does anyone feel confident he is going to go to Buffalo and do a good job? Or do most people feel like he may throw a couple interceptions and its up to the defense, run game and playmakers to win it for us?

It is true that other young QB's are showing wild signs of inconsistency too.

I think it is fair to say that RT has to get better in some areas yet state you still want him under center for the time being.

Let's not wait around for six years to bring in someone else. We should be developing someone behind RT right now.

Let's give Tannehill the line that got 2200+ yards and 22 TDs rushing and see how it goes ok?

It is an interesting discussion, I think there is a lack of patience , I think the scouting of QBs has gotten lazy, and I think a big issue is that way too many teams focus all of their resources in giving a QB weapons rather than protecting a QB. I think think in that sense as well, I think OL scouting as become lazy as well with a lot of teams.

The NFL can keep monkeying with the rules so it's beloved Brady's and Manning's can still be effective at 54. Go back to pre-2002 or whenever it was rules when Bill Polian lobbied successfully so that QBs can find guys wide open on short routes all day long. Go back to where you could hit the QB. That would get these old guys out of the league. Who wants to see a 39 year old QB still lighting it up. The game has been practically ruined by the pass happy rules.
Tom Brady (38), Aaron Rodgers (32), Philip Rivers (34), Ben Roethlisberger (33), Drew Brees (36), Carson Palmer (36), and Eli Manning (34), not to mention Peyton Manning (39), who isn’t having a great statistical season but has his team at 7-0.

We have a below average o line at best, a running game that hardly ever is used in an effective way, and were getting what production from our draft picks? The QB needs to play better but would really like to see some improvement in other areas of the team before the book is closed on the QB.

How long before we get to see that? During the Bengals game the announcers said their roster is stocked with talent (2 deep) at most positions - must be nice.

Good point why do you not attempt to protect your young QB's in Indy, Miami and even in Seattle?

Tannehill is not good enough right now to lift the team when the defense is not playing well, running not clicking or the line is leaky. Just what it is. The team needs to play better around him.
