The Miami cornerback figures things out. But he's not Aristotle, sitting around trying to figure out the existential meaning of junk.

That is the perfect approach for an NFL cornerback.

And that was evident in Davis on Wednesday, the first day he needed to start thinking ahead to this weekend's assignment against the Tampa Bay Bucs, and the last day he should have been thinking about Randy Moss and the New England Patriots.

Don't misunderstand, Davis looked at his game against the Patriots.
He had his ups -- with a jaw-dropping interception in the first quarter and a great second-quarter tackle of Wes Welker for a one-yard loss on a receiver screen. He had his downs -- giving up a 71-yard TD on a crossing route and being flagged for pass interference.

"I look at it like it's the little stuff that needs correction," Davis said. "That's what makes the good players great, when you go back and criticize yourself real hard."

Vontae's quickly becoming my favorite player on the team. He may have gotten torched for much of the game, but he was left one on one with arguably the greatest WR of all time and intercepted a pass from arguably the greatest QB of all time. I don't care who you are, that's amazing.

Woah. You looking to be murdered around here?

But I agree Vontae looks like he will be one of our best defensive players if he can keep it up.

Believe me. I hate Brady and don't think he's the best ever, but there are plenty of idiots that think that guy is the best of all time.

I like Vontae a lot, and not just because he shares my last name.

He is full of passion and such a great tackler. That INT on Sunday made me stand up and scream. He definatly held his own against one of the all timers.

I like his swag.

Yea he's turning out to be a beast, I was a little worried at the start of the yr he didnt make his way to the starting role but he has impressed the hell out of me. Now sean needs to step it up a little bit and we will be set for years.

Great! Now that we have two young starting CBs, let's go out and draft Jamar Fletcher

Everyone was slobbering all over Sean Smith because of summer reports in training camp where there was NO contact. Smiths biggest knock going into the draft was that as Mayock said, "he wont hit anybody", and he's been right so far. He has better cover skills than Vontae and it showed in the offseason when there was no contact, but Davis will come up and sacrifice himself on a blocker for a teammate to get a tackle. I see Smith out there playing pattycake with wide receivers on running plays and it bugs me a lot. Vontae once the hitting started and the pads went on, has started justifying his selection ahead of Smith because good tackling corners are rare.

A really good cover CB & A more physical run stuffer and people are complaining? Its good thing some of you & the internet weren't around in 1973.

Bottom line; CB along w/ QB are 2 positions Miami won't need to worry about for some time.

I think Davis is doing a way better job. Everytime I see Smith I see him getting beat / missing tackles. Except for the few times hes broken up passes

I think he played very well against Moss. The three Moss catches I remember are as follows:

1. The great one-handed catch, where Davis was in perfect position, and Moss pushed off. I'm not saying it should have been a penalty (though the homer in me thinks it was a blown call), but Davis was in great position.

2. A short side-line pattern where Davis gave Moss a ton of room. Not a shining moment, but those things happen when you play an elite WR.

3. The crossing pattern where Moss scored a TD. Davis covered Moss across the entire field, and Moss caught a 5 (give or take) yard pass. Where the hell was the rest of the D? I can't envision ever leaving someone THAT alone on a WR like Randy Moss. It should have been maybe a 10 yard play. Again, Moss ran across the entire field without a single Dolphin defender - save for Davis - noticing.

Throw the numbers out the window, and watch the game. Davis played very well. Not perfect - but very well.
