Vontae Davis on Punt coverage

I don't think this is a great idea. Force this guy to SPRINT 60 yards down field to cover the punt, then the next play have him out there covering a WR who is rested. To me this is just asking for a deep ball to Vonte's side.

If the guy can't run a 60 yard sprint and cover someone after a 2 min television break , he can't proclaim himself a professionnal football player, nor can he say he's part of the best CB tandem in the league

Injuries are part of the game

What do you want sparano to do ? we've been saying all along that our special teams need improvement, maybe putting people that can actually tackle will help out a bit.

Sparano is doing everything to keep his job, he's gambling more than ever and that's what we wanted for the past seasons, why the hell would we be complaining ?

Get her done Tony

You can say that "it's only college" but the Gators play mostly starters on special teams. Playing special teams is considered a honor. You want good and fast tacklers on kick offs and punts. Vontae Davis made his first big plays here on special teams.

I'm on the side of the fence that considers this enormously stupid...

We have PLENTY of other DBs who can fill that role. Maybe they're not quite as good as vontae, but in my opinion the risk of injury and also the waste of energy is WAY too big of a deal to justify having vontae out there...

He's the best corner on our team, I'm sorry but he does not need to be on ANY special teams plays. THERE ARE OTHER DBS that can do it almost as well, and are far less valuable. Plus he should save his energy since he's going to be in on 95% of the defensive plays...

Incredibly stupid move in my opinion, almost reminds me of when cam cameron had ronnie brown returning kickoffs =((((((((((((

ABSOLUTELY. tell me the next time you see Asomugha (sp) or Revis covering punts or kickoffs. i'm sure they would be good on special teams.

Based on this logic, Chris Johnson should be returning kickoffs

exactly... according to some people's logic we should have reggie bush covering punts, as well as brandon marshall, vontae, and others. They would be the best at it so why not use them?

Wait.... MAYBE because it's not worth the risk of injury to your top tier starters to be involved in special teams play... How can people not understand that.

In my opinion Sparano was either trying to prove a point that he can do whatever he wants, or perhaps Vontae is being punished for something we don't know about. You just don't have your best corner running down the field on punt coverage, I'm sorry you just don't

Seriously?

He plays special teams because he is a good special teams player. Period.

it's not worth the risk..... wouldn't dansby or wake be good on special teams??? not worth it..

I'm not trying to be rude but your logic makes NO sense at all. Just because he's good at ST he should be on it?? It's way too risky man...

Reggie bush would be AMAZING on special teams, should we use him every st play?

Brandon marshall would be even better on special teams, should we use him every special teams play??

Same with davone bess, koa misi, and more.... they'd all be very good on special teams but theyre not worth risking... thats why 95% of special teams units are BACKUPS and third string players...

You're trying to justify your argument by throwing starters out there because they are starters, Reggie and Brandon have shown what as far as special teams coverage and tackling skills?

Special Teams cost us 2-3 games last year because they weren't good enough. Sparano is trying to make sure Special Teams wins us 2-3 games this year and at the very least, doesn't cost us games.

32 nfl teams... how many starting corners are on ANY special teams?? let's look at last yr's pro bowl. how many "all-stars" played on special teams. why not that many? It is too risky.

how many kickoffs did Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Andre Johnson etc etc run back

Wow Im Sorry but some ppl just have no logic. Have you heard announcers say how teams keep players not to start but to play special teams???
It is a big risk to put Davis Playing S/T he gets injured doing so and then you will all see how good it feels too loose to premier cornerback.
You will never see Revis, Nmamdi, or Asante on special teams that's why teams carry 6 and 7 back up Dbs that can play special teams so they can avoid using their premier Dbs.
Just becuase the Phins have a crappy special teams does not mean u put ur best tackler in it maybe the coach sucks or the plasyers suck and in that case get better back up players but let Vontae rest to play Defense.
