This regime (owner included) is not one of the sharpest tools in the shed when it comes to football decisions, IMO. Then again, special teams has been horrible in the past, so maybe there is no choice but to put some starters out there. It is what it is, I guess. Lets just play ball and hope for the best.

I've seen zach thomas on special teams, in his prime. When they were younger the Raven had Ed Reed and other starters on kick coverage. And of course Brian Urlacher has been on the Bears special teams.

Bringing in Revis, Asomugha and Samuels in the discussion is completely ridiculous.

Facts:
1- They all have 10 million dollar contracts (approx.) , so yeah you don't want to risk that kind of investment
2- Those guys play on teams that have much MUCH more depth. Trust me, if Vontae played for the Jets or the Eagles he wouldn't be on special teams, because they have good enough players for that.

Probable fact:
Revis, Asomugha, whoever, all those elite cornerbacks played some special teams early in their career, I'd bet a lot on that.


I understand the injury part is scary to some, but that's just the goddamn nature of the game. Tony and the coaching staff have to build the best team they can, and the special teams units are a big part of it.

Last year (and the year before (and before (and before (etc. )))) we flat out sucked ! at some point you need to put guys out there who can make plays, even it means using some of your starters on defence/offence
