Vontae Davis wants Bowles to stay in Miami

You don't keep the guy around you beat out for the job, especially if the players are up his azz. Thats how disention starts if the team struggles. Bowles is nothig special, nor is his secondary.

We were 25th in the league in pass defense. If the players loved Bowles so much, they should have played better. I don't blame Bowles for all of it given I think we are mediocre at safety and Smith hasn't proved much on the outside. We had an inconsistent pass rush but still finished 10th in sacks so not all the blame goes there. Regardless, hardly the kind of performance that should warrant a promotion to DC IMO.

I hope we upgrade at Safety and get another pass rusher or I don't think we'll improve much no matter who is the DC.

Im not against Bowles staying but I just want someone who will get out of Vontae what he is capable because he hasn't brought it yet. We need someone to make this secondary better... and that means we might need to rid ourselves of Sean Smith.

Ill let Philbin decide.  I think Vontae could be so much better and has ceilingless potential.  I think Smith has a lot of potential but is too dumb/lazy to realize his potential.

After Vontae recovered from his hamstring issues to start the year, he played at an elite level.

There is a reason Smith looks so bad, because they almost NEVER throw to Vontae's side.

Vontae is gonna be a shutdown corner in Miami for years to come, so if he like Bowles, I would like to see us try and keep him.

He was not elite, he lost his reciever 2 times in the last two games, both for td's. He needs to shut his yap and improve.

i'm sure he does.

sound like the inmates are running the asylum in todds unit. everytime i watch vontae i see a guy who is running on his god given ability and neads to be COACHED UP in worst way. same with jimmie wilson. and it isnt happening. vontae, like his brother, is massivly gifted but needs a guiding hand, someone who can and WILL kick his butt when needed. no coincidence vontaes game came up a few notches after tony benched him. vontae responds to that kind of "fatherly" hand, as his brother has under harbaugh in san fran.

but vontae should be WAY, WAY ahead of where he is now and thats because he has a position coach that has FAILED on every team he has coached for. i'm sure todd is a real down brutha, a homy's homy, but that doesnt make him a good coach or qualified to be d/c. his record speaks for itself.

our secondary is always out of position. guys are regularly running right by our db's. when teams really want to throw the ball, they do. succesfully. and many times i see poor technique, most of which should have been coached out of them by now.

when it gets to this point, a player isnt being coached up OR he just doesnt have the game to succeed. and if thats the case, the player just doesnt have it [see sean smith], that person needs replaced. thats a coaches job, not only to teach, but to put the right players on the field. make the tough choices. sean smith is at disney land under bowles. and he knows it. so does vontae and i am sure they would like the party to continue. hopefully, it wont.

and in the case of a unit who is at the bottom of the leauge, EVERY YEAR, its coaching! and needs to be replaced.

"down" butha or not!!

i dont care a thing about a coaches color, religion, looks, friends, etc......, as bill parcells said, you are what your record says you are. so before you come a runnin' to take me to task over the immortal todd bowles, LOOK AT HIS RECORD of coaching secondaries in the nfl. then make your decision to bash me or not.

if you found out a certain coach was being hired in miami and you looked at his nfl record and it was bottom of the barrell on every team he coached, you would be LIVID! rightly so. and if the team said,"well, everyone just loves [place coach name here]", you would be saying, "i dont give a flying fugg how popular he is. he obviously is NOT a quality coach". and rightly so.

how bowles has gotten this "cult" following amongst the fans is beyond me. friendship gets in the way beteen coaches and players at times and muddies the waters, its understandable to a point. todd was a db and has a lot in common both professionaly and socially with his players. and no one wants to see their friends gone. human nature. but that is where the decision makers need to step in and say, "look, we love ya to death, but we need the secondary to do more than what it has been for the last 3 years. were going in another direction".

and it appears philbin MAY be making that [overdue] decision.

and as far as this fan adulation goes, they dont pal around with the guy. they are not team mates with him. he isnt on tv because coaches have gag orders from coaches talking to the media bothe here and when he was in dallas, so its not like there is miles of interviews to buy into his charisma. all hype. unwarrented hype!!

bring PERRRY FEWELL in as d/c and give him the assistant head coach title they wasted on bowles along with a top in the nfl salary!!

now THERE is a real defensive coach. i was even hoping they would interview him for the h/c job!

TODD MUST GO!!!!!!!

Ummm, didn't realize you played for the Dolphins and knew what made Vontae go out on a limb for Bowles. Your post is filled with conjecture, and you state them as facts. Bowles is well respected around he league and I'm assuming it's for a reason. Also, this "down brotha" and "homys homy" nonsense is truly uncalled for and just sounds ignorant and backward. I guess it's Bowles' fault that Vontae is out partying all night and showing up late to practice, prompting the fight with Brandon Marshall when he told him to act like a professional.

Our secondary is young. You could coach all you want, but if they don't take those lessons seriously and hone their craft, they'll fail to reach their ceiling. But I don't play for the Dolphins. I'm not in those meeting rooms, so I can't speak for how good of a coach Todd Bowles is, or the fact that he's a "down brotha" is the reason some of the players want him back.

He made Santonio Holmes explode on his team. When Sanchez had 10 seconds to throw, he gave up a easy TD, but the 2nd half of the year he played lime a top corner.

If you played better early in the yr Vontae then Bowles would still be here, we dont need imput from any player on this team regarding coaching decisions...........

Vontae Davis has no room to talk. We wants Bowles back as HC? Well, I was 5 picks a year from here on out. Actually, make it 3.

If you knew anything about what your talking about, you would know that there was problems all year between Holmes and Sanchez. They had blow ups in meetings, and the locker room, long before they played the Dolphins. LT said it was the worst he had seen between two players in his career.
