Vontae Davis wants Bowles to stay in Miami

I think he's done very well in his time here in Miami.

DzaKK: how is his units finishing AT THE BOTTOM portion of the leauge EVERY YEAR [and everwhere he has coached] considered "done very well here"?

how do you come up with that?

what would you consider NOT good?

After Vontae recovered from his hamstring issues to start the year, he played at an elite level.

you mean after he was BENCHED for missing meetings, falling asleep and other "kid stuff".

funny how his hammy almost instantly got better and his play improved so much after that benching.

They were very good in 2008, solid in 2009 & 2010, had one horrible year this past season.

Actually his secondaries were poor in
2008...25th in passing yards allowed
2009...24th in passing yards allowed
2010...8th in passing yards allowed
2011...25th in passing yards allowed

Not sure where you how you can say they were very good in 2008 when they were 25th
in the NFL!!!

Solid in 2009 at 24th in the NFL???

SOLID IS 2010 AT 8TH IN THE LEAGUE

back to terrible in 2011 at 25th in the league

The only reason he is here is because of the Dallas coaches exodus
when blowhard Parcells came to town otherwise he should have been fired long ago with the results he has produced.

Our secondary hasn't learned anything over the years
they continue to make the same mistakes over and over
poor tackling, poor safety play, way to many big plays, hardly any turnovers,
a secondary that was dropping like flies at the begining of the season due to not
being in shape,SAME NON COVERAGE OF TIGHT ENDS FOR ALL 4 BOWLES YEARS HERE
and we EVEN CONSIDERED HIM AS A HEAD COACH CANDIDATE

Bowles should have been exorcised with the rest of the Dallas rejects

i'm sure he does.

sound like the inmates are running the asylum in todds unit. everytime i watch vontae i see a guy who is running on his god given ability and neads to be COACHED UP in worst way. same with jimmie wilson. and it isnt happening. vontae, like his brother, is massivly gifted but needs a guiding hand, someone who can and WILL kick his butt when needed. no coincidence vontaes game came up a few notches after tony benched him. vontae responds to that kind of "fatherly" hand, as his brother has under harbaugh in san fran.

but vontae should be WAY, WAY ahead of where he is now and thats because he has a position coach that has FAILED on every team he has coached for. i'm sure todd is a real down brutha, a homy's homy, but that doesnt make him a good coach or qualified to be d/c. his record speaks for itself.

our secondary is always out of position. guys are regularly running right by our db's. when teams really want to throw the ball, they do. succesfully. and many times i see poor technique, most of which should have been coached out of them by now.

when it gets to this point, a player isnt being coached up OR he just doesnt have the game to succeed. and if thats the case, the player just doesnt have it [see sean smith], that person needs replaced. thats a coaches job, not only to teach, but to put the right players on the field. make the tough choices. sean smith is at disney land under bowles. and he knows it. so does vontae and i am sure they would like the party to continue. hopefully, it wont.

and in the case of a unit who is at the bottom of the leauge, EVERY YEAR, its coaching! and needs to be replaced.

"down" butha or not!!

i dont care a thing about a coaches color, religion, looks, friends, etc......, as bill parcells said, you are what your record says you are. so before you come a runnin' to take me to task over the immortal todd bowles, LOOK AT HIS RECORD of coaching secondaries in the nfl. then make your decision to bash me or not.

if you found out a certain coach was being hired in miami and you looked at his nfl record and it was bottom of the barrell on every team he coached, you would be LIVID! rightly so. and if the team said,"well, everyone just loves [place coach name here]", you would be saying, "i dont give a flying fugg how popular he is. he obviously is NOT a quality coach". and rightly so.

how bowles has gotten this "cult" following amongst the fans is beyond me. friendship gets in the way beteen coaches and players at times and muddies the waters, its understandable to a point. todd was a db and has a lot in common both professionaly and socially with his players. and no one wants to see their friends gone. human nature. but that is where the decision makers need to step in and say, "look, we love ya to death, but we need the secondary to do more than what it has been for the last 3 years. were going in another direction".

and it appears philbin MAY be making that [overdue] decision.

and as far as this fan adulation goes, they dont pal around with the guy. they are not team mates with him. he isnt on tv because coaches have gag orders from coaches talking to the media bothe here and when he was in dallas, so its not like there is miles of interviews to buy into his charisma. all hype. unwarrented hype!!

bring PERRRY FEWELL in as d/c and give him the assistant head coach title they wasted on bowles along with a top in the nfl salary!!

now THERE is a real defensive coach. i was even hoping they would interview him for the h/c job!

TODD MUST GO!!!!!!!

Really shocked that finheaven's NRA spokesman is a tremendous racist... I guess it takes a TRUE AMERICAN to be this ignorant.

I want to see the Dolphins in the playoffs, I could less if Vontae Davis is happy or not. Vontae being happy isn't going to get us wins.

To me it's about big plays allowed.

In 2008 they were 8th in passing TDs allowed (18), 8th in INTs (18), and 9th in opposing QB rating (77.0).

In 2009 they were 18th in passing TDs allowed (23), 16th in INTs (15), and 19th opposing QB rating (86.9).

In 2010 they were 9th in passing TDs allowed (22), 28th in INTs (11), and 15th opposing QB rating (85.0).

Yards never tell the whole story. In 2008, we were passed on a lot because we were able to get and hold onto leads.

2008 was a very good year because that stout secondary led us to an 11 win season.

Vonate does suffer from detriment to his play because of his immaturity, but he played very well after getting some sense knocked into him.

Go by what the final score says and how well your defense holds leads late into games.

In 2008, we won a lot of games because our defense was able to create TOs (INTs) and not giving up 4th quarter TDs.

2008 was a very good year for Bowles and he did a lot with a little.

Bowles was the secondary coach
not the defensive coordinator ...we are talking about Bowles right now

as far as interceptions as you previously mentioned you do realize other players
have interceptions other than secondary players.

for instance in 2008 Merling had 1 and Ayodelle had 2 interceptions dropping the total
of SECONDARY interceptions to 15. The Jet,KC,Rams,Broncos produced 12 out of the 15 interceptions or 80% of the seasons interceptions in 4 games.

The other 12 games produced only 3 interceptions by our secondary

In 2009 our secondary only had 12 interceptions
Crowder,Taylor,and Torbor had the others

in 2010 our secondary had 11 interceptions

in 2011 our secondary again had 11 interceptions
with Starks,Odrick,Burnett, and Dansby the other ints.

as far as yards allowed and interceptions this secondary has been and continues to
show negative improvement

I also love what you wrote regarding
in quotes
"2008 was a very good year because that stout secondary led us to an 11 win season. "

you couldn't be more wrong
HAVING THE EASIEST SCHEDULE IN THE NFL WITH THE ADDITION OF PENNINGTON
AND HIS PLAY/LACK OF TURNOVERS IS WHY WE HAD 11 WINS IN 2008

If you believe it was our secondary you my friend need to follow Sparano's footsteps

We won 11 games in 2008 and won our division. We played an almost identical schedule as the rest of our division foes (minus two games), so we played better than anyone in our division that year.

I know exactly how we won games that year and I seem to remember our D holding onto a lot of leads late because Pennington (as effective as he was) by no means blew opposing defenses away.

7 of our 11 wins were by 7 points or less, so that secondary helped hold onto leads late into games.

An argument can also be made that Nolan's unspectacular play calling led to a lot of skewed numbers. Nolan has to be one of the worst 4th quarter play callers I have seen here in Miami. Numerous times he called a great first half and then came out in the second half and went conservative. So the play calling argument goes both ways, Bowles can only coach the players to do what Nolan wants them to, nothing more nothing less, so It could be said that our secondary played better under Pasqualoni and only got worse once Nolan got here and the numbers do back that argument.

Don't give me that INT spill, all teams have other players (LBs & DL) who have INTs as well. So unless you're willing to look at each teams INTs by their secondary only, the total team INTs is as good a number to judge how well a team plays on the back end when it comes to takeaways.

I could care less about your opinion, it was a team effort in 2008 and the secondary was a part of the reason we won the AFC East. Sparano lost his job for a reason, he was a terrible game planner and never could make in game adjustments.

You my friend can follow the other sheep off the cliff for all I care.
