Vontae Davis: “We The Best (CB) Tandem In The League”

I think Vontae takes the step to becoming an elite corner this year. Im not going to compare him to Revis, because Revis is just dominant. However, Vontae has a VERY high ceiling, how high that ceiling is still unknown to us. I do know that last year for the first 5-6 games I believe Vontae was arguably the best corner in the league. He needs consistency...if he finds it this year we will all be happy happy fans. We certainly have a promising duo.

It's not facts, its an opinion that you think Cro/Revis will be a better duo at CB than Davis/Smith. You have no way of knowing who is going to be the better duo in 2011. There may be stats from previous years suggesting that Revis/Cro could be better but that isn't anything but an aid in determining "your opinion" of which duo is going to be better this year.
 
Well they will have a great chance to back that up in a couple of weeks when they go up against a very surgical Tom Brady. I remember seeing Revis slide to the slot and cover Welker, can Davis do that? If we see Welker beating up on Benny Sapp I guess the obvious answer would be no. Even Nhamdi, when interviewed, says he’s playing inside more now and I remember reading the knock on him was that he’s an RCB and only an RCB. I also remember instances where Madison would just cover Marvin Harrison, because he was killing Jamar Fletcher, and Surtain going to the slot to cover him. Davis needs to do these things IMHO to get to that level.
 
Did Smith even end up the starter at the end of last year? I don't think he even started much of the season last year. Although, according to PFF, he was actually ranked higher than Davis (for all that matters.) Davis has potential at this point, but that is all. Revis is actually doing it. McCourty is better than Davis, but he doesn't have a good tandem. So is Joe Haden.

And quite frankly, there is no question that the Jets have the better tandem right now. (Call it opinion...whatever...)
 
Vontae at 3 yrs younger than Revis, no doubt has the potential to be in the same class as Revis or the other best corner Nnamdi Asomugha.

I do agree with Junc (I kicked myself in the bollox saying it), both of them are by a distance best corners in league, but to say Davis is only as good as Cromartie is a joke! Davis is just as good as Cromartie in coverage and I not even going to pitty the argument of playing the run!

These 2 IMO, Smith & Davis have the potential to be better than Madison & Surtain. Those were the days I loved being Miami on madden :)

There's not a person connected w/ football or who knows a thing about football who isn't a phins homer who thinks your duo is better than ours.

Is the PB being played the week before the SB? then I can see this happening and revis will be 1st team all-pro again which is much more significant than the pro bowl.
 
I like the talk.

Miss the Madison & Surtain days too...you knew we would at least get 1, maybe even 2 picks per game. Never knew if the offense would capitalize on the turnover though because of our 3 yards and a cloud of dust style.

Sam had the great skill of watching his man run his route, and once he guessed the route and understood the QB was not going to throw it to the guy he was covering, he would then eye-ball the QB to watch his reads/progressions, then he would leave his man early and go after the ball.

He got burned a couple times by leaving his man too soon, and going after the INT, but when he was young, he got the pick on many occasions.
 
I'd say the Chiefs, Jets, Pack, Eagles, Bucs and potentially the Patriots have just as good if not better CB tandems than Miami right now. Vontae Davis took a big leap from his first year to his second year and is a good CB but I still don't see Smith as a complete player.

Revis is alot better than Vontae Davis at this point...Revis is the best in the league....Sean Smith is a tad bit better than Cromartie...

Revis> Davis>Sean Smith> Cromartie
