Vontae Davis

Davis wasnt covering Welker. He was covering Slater.

Eery secondary in the league wa getting burned over the weekend.

There were times when Davis was on Welker, there were 2 players where he went deep and Davis was covering. The one Welker dropped.

Yes, I think we can put aside the comparisons between Revis and Davis for a very long time...

The difference between Revis and Davis is that Revis never came out and said he was the best. Rex Ryan did. Revis just backed it up. Davis is stroking his own ego.

Davis needs to prove he belongs in the conversation in the first place. I hope to God he doesn't turn into another Joey Porter. A guy that shoots off his mouth but doesn't back it up.

That is kinda where I was going with this.

Yes Jones was horrid/Nolan was pathetic our LB'ERS were a non factor, Wake was irrelevant ETC.

But it was Davis running his mouth during the offseason about being the best duo in Football and he goes and gets burnt by Welker and couldn't cover anyone really all night.

The whole defense was a joke last night. People want to talk about our young developing players in Jones and Carol. They can they were horrible, but I am more worried about a veteran like Davis who should do alot better.

If he is gonna talk the talk he needs to walk the walk.

Did Sean Smith really have a bad game?

I don’t think the guys saying Davis is as good as Revis are very bright for one simple reason, that I mentioned before and nobody commented on. Revis will follow the opposing teams best WR to the Slot, Davis never goes to the slot. They should have moved him in to cover Welker once it was clear Sapp couldn’t. A truly elite CB moves goes to cover the oppositions best WR. Revis did this Sunday night early on when Dez Bryant caught fire on Cromartie. I was really looking forward to the Revis vs Bryant matchup, especially after Bryant caught one over him, but Dez got hurt and was a liability for much of the last 3 quarters.

Don’t get me started on Nolan Carroll, he comes off the bench fresh as a daisy and can’t cover anyone. Good job keeping the younger cheaper player, you got what you paid for.

When this Davis = Revis conversation started last year I tended to stay away from it. No way Davis is even equal to Revis. Hopefully as the season goes on he will be, but to date, it is safe to say that Revis is better. Revis doesnt give up a 50 yarder once a game like Davis typically does.

well for one reason.. it was 14-14 we we last saw vontae and he left with cramps.... what happened after he left? the pats EXPLODED offensively

The CB's had bad games, but I'm telling you, Reshad Jones was the biggest liability in that secondary last night. Terrible decision starting him. He was absolutely zero help in pas coverage the entire night. He was out of place the entire night and he took bad angles the entire night. I don't even wanna rewatch it, I know what I saw.

Clemons is the better option imo. But I think this game should just be a hiccup for our D.

I did see Vontae get absolutely toasted by Slater on a PA, and I remember at least one other occasion as well. Smith, I believe did okay, that TD on Hernandez he couldn't even run. But I think once they're in a little better condition and mid-season form they'll be alright

Fully agree. There is no way Sapp can cover Welker. That's what we need Vontae for. Put Smith on Ocho and I guess that's when the LB'ers should cover the TE's and Sapp and Clemons could work on branch.

I honestly don't know what to say about Carroll. He was terrible. He was out of position so much, and as he got gassed, it just kept getting worse. Why would they not make a quick adjustment on the fly. Bring in some help if the same guy keeps getting burnt ya know? Nolan looked okay for us last year when he got playing time, I don't understand why not he is just pulling a Jason Allen.

Speaking of Allen(s), we NEED Will back. And Jason did a fine job of covering Welker for us back in the day a couple times, not sure how, but hey! And also on the subject of JA, we play him next week against the Texans I believe. That should be exploitable lol

Yeah was that before or after Brady still hadn't thrown an incompletion? They didn't explode, they kept doing what they were doing?

I guess you missed the numerous times he was beat deep. Come on man, Welker torched him

you move davis to the slot and the pats do what they did when davis was out with cramps...attack the hell out of your newly brought in boundary cb carroll...davis needs to be on the boundary cause if you move him inside you will get banged for chunk yardage on the outside...carrolls not ready at all...he's gonna wear a target when he gets run...

me thinks we should be dialing up will allen about right now or seeing what jimmy wilson has to offer...i would also be checking out nate jones

oh please, people love calling people out. did you see how our pass D got even worse when he was sitting out? he is still the best corner on the team. no pass rush for 95% of the night corners can't chase receivers for 10 seconds, don't care who you are. pats spread us out the whole game and with brady's accuracy even if the corner is just a bit lax he'll fit it in. cant call out davis here, the whole D played bad besides wake's sack i think we hit brady once..

Stat of the night Davis and Smith allowed 2 completions. Benny Sapp should be released after that reaming he received.

Imo benny sapp or nolan Carroll was. Where is jimmy Wilson???

Its pretty sad that he got beat downfield by Welker a couple of times, lucky Welker dropped the one. I don't see how he has more upside or potential than Revis... Revis is a smarter player and is a better athlete.

Vontae Davis workout numbers- 5'11 201. 4.49 40-time, 6.75 3-cone, 37 vertical

Darrelle Revis workout numbers-5'11 204, 4.38 40-time, 6.56 3-cone, 38 vertical

Your entire secondary was shredded last night, but it seems to be the story around the league right now. Most 300+ yard pass performances in NFL history for a week of NFL games. Defenses must be behind with the lockout and new training camp rules.

im gonna give in to a jets fan. unreal. because most of the time they have no clue what the hell they are talking about. revis is better. and thats fine. revis is still a bit overrated. but vontae davis needs to shut his mouth and play. what was he thinking? saying that before playing brady? just dumb. 40 time doesnt make revis a better player or a better athlete tho necessarily. and vontae davis didnt get any help. he was still behind in coverage on that first big play to a patriots bench warmer. even tho he was expecting help over the top. so what. stay with your man dummy. the biggest problem i have with these guys is the dehydration. why in the hell are u not prepared for this game against brady? to the point that u are missing plays and backups get torched because u are out of shape to play?? u cant be the best if u cant play. smith got torched too. too lazy to even lean over and touch a tight end that just smoked him from sliding into the end zone even tho the ref made a bad call and ruled he was touched.

our secondary was bad no doubt. and there is blame to go around everywhere. but in a passing league we have 2 corners that can cover. and they arent steady enough. that is ridiculous.

in this game tho. if u go back and look. all tom brady had to do is send his tight end in motion and he knew every single time if we were in zone or man. he knew when he had benny sapp mismatched on a bigger tight end. or more athletic sadly enough when its hernandez. just playing catch at that point. too easy. and thats on nolan. terrible design, and terrible job of gathering talent in the offseason when u know ahead of time u must find guys that can matchup with those tightends if we were ever going to have a chance to beat the pats. nolan and sapp and jones were a joke. and for this glaring mistake so were the coaching staff and front office this offseason. i guess for some reason they thought 9-7 and missing the playoffs was gonna be good enough to keep their jobs. pretty dumb if u ask me.

this is a good team. better than most would ever give them credit. certainly in the top half of the league. maybe even at the bottom of the top 10 teams. maybe when its all said and done better than the jets even. because yes they find a way to win at times. but they are also overrated. the backed into the playoffs 2 years ago. and got lucky enough to advance. id still take last years 14-2 pats. or this years version. the dolphins have more talent. but they might also have more glaring holes. they have upgraded. but i would take rex all day everyday in a game that we needed to win over sparano. so the jets may still end up ahead of us. with 2 guaranteed losses to the pats is it realistic to think we go 9-5 in the rest of the games? thats pretty tough! especially with the brutal schedule again. unfortunately that means this whole thing is getting blown up in the offseason regardless if progress is made or not. and i believe progress will be made.

its just this regime makes too many mistakes. it gets too many small things wrong. why wasnt their roster built to beat the pats in week one? why didnt they have more size in the secondary? and bring in a guy like quintin mickall to play free safety? why wasnt will allen around for this game? and why couldnt they figure out with an entire offseason to prepare that they absolutely had to find a way to disguise coverage against tom brady? i mean shouldnt that be common sense? and if i can go back and presnap figure out if its man or zone u think frickin tom brady is gonna have any trouble? especially with the size/speed mismatches his tight ends create?

we blew this game. we blew this season. and i love the change in philosophy. i love the fact this coach - who make no mistake - was a joke, made the changes he did. if he was in the nfc west, if he was in the afc south, probably half the divisions out there. the dolphins would have a very good year. many pieces are in place, and the coaching staff will finally try to win some games. that i respect. that i applaud them for. this year finally we wont have to be ashamed to be dolfans. but its going to be too little too late. too many small mistakes that created big problems. we were exposed again last night. this team isnt complete and even if henne becomes a top 10 qb. he still wont be elite. we are stuck in mediocrity and its gonna be tough to get out. i just hope that ross makes the right call next year, but considering the fact this guy gets everything else wrong that would be hard to believe. harbaugh was the right guy, but ross blew it.
