I had a chance to speak with Bud Foster last night. I do not know him on a personal level at all pretty much. I have met him a couple of times in the Blacksburg, VA area. But both times I was blown away by his down to earth personality. I asked him about VT's Proday and if any of the players were getting special attention from the Miami Dolphins.

Here are a few key things that Bud had to say...

* Kory Robertson spent quite a bit of time with them. They seemed to really like him.

Name:
Kory Robertson
College: Virginia Tech Number: 75

* Chris Ellis also spent quite a bit of time with them. They seemed to really like him as well. Bud went on to say that "Chris Ellis reminds him of the Dolphins player Jason Taylor". He went on to say that Chris got their attention with his ability to play OLB/DE. He said that Miami is switching to the 3-4 system and Chris would fit the mold for a big 3-4 LB core. I have seen Chris Ellis play and he has a lot of talent. But it is hard to compare any player to Jason Taylor coming out of college. If we take him...I hope Bud Foster is right. He has plenty of respect for JT's game, he just thinks Chris Ellis will be another All-Pro DEOLB in the NFL.

I asked him about B. Flowers speed. He said that his 40 yard dash does not get much attention. But his gameday speed makes the plays needed at the next level. He is physical and great vs. the run and pass.

He then went on to say that X. Adibi (My Favorite Hokie) is getting a lot of attention from teams. He has great speed for his position and can play solid coverage for a OLB. Although his size/weight is a little bit short for some teams.

I asked him about V. Hall. Bud Foster made it very clear once again...V. Hall is the BEST PLAYER HE HAS EVER COACHED. He is EXTREMELY HIGH ON V. HALL. He said that his size and speed does not hit the range most teams are looking for come draft day. He also has a leg injury right now. Bud thought that might make him fall in the draft a bit. Even after all of that he thought V. Hall is the best player he has ever coached and some team will find a great player for years to come. If you have seen him play then you know...Vince Hall is a beast of a LB.

All in all...

Bud Foster is a great guy & one that I have a ton of respect for... He will talk with fans & has a brilliant football mind. This is the second time I have met him and both times came away grateful for his thoughts and time. I just hope the HOKIES can keep paying him more...I would LOVE to see Bud Foster as the next VT HC, after Frank Beamer calls it retires:boohoo: in about another 5-10 years:woot:. The HOKIES have done an EXCELLENT job of keeping both of these coaches!!!!

I just cannot see Miami drafting X. Adibi....:boohoo:
I hope Miami can find a way to draft Chris Ellis with the 32 pick. If Miami does not draft Chris Long with the #1 overall pick.

That's about it...GO HOKIES!!!

I was hoping Foster wouldve gotten our head coaching job at WVU. He was a candidate. Im also hoping we can get our hands on Brandon Flowers. I think that kid will be a quality corner in the league for years.

i reallly like ellis. I think he might get picked up at 57 if he lasts and play LB but probably MLB ala the dude that came in at MLB last year for the Boys, James.

As a VT student, I've seen a lot of these guys the last two years. Robertson is a load inside, big enough to handle the nose tackle position. Ellis could be a steal if we could get him at 57, don't know if he would last that long. He was easily the Hokies best pass rusher last season. Hall and Adibi were both awesome players, but I don't think they have the ideal size for a 3-4. If you look past their size however, Adibi is a sideline to sideline player who always seemed to come up big when the defense needed him to. Hall is a very smart playmaker, and good in run support. The defense was not the same when he was off the field with his injury.

Flowers is the most talented of the group. He is a true shutdown corner, takes a lot of chances...perhaps too much...but he is the playmaker our secondary needs. VT runs a lot of man on man coverage, which is what we will likely be running next season, so he shouldn't have a lot of adjusting to do. The only question with him is his character, he has had some minor problems with the team, and some questionable pictures have surfaced on the internet. But he is as good as any corner in this draft talent-wise.

I could live with that. Although, I REALLY want Quentin Groves at 2a...assuming Jake Long is the pick.
