For anyone checking here are the stat lines of Ogun, Williams, and Bowens

Ogun - 3 tackles 3 assists 0 sacks
Williams - 3 tackles 3 assists 1 sack
Bowens - 1 tackle 1 assist 0 sacks

You make the call --- Did not having Ogun in the Dolphins line up hurt as much as some claimed it would? Round 1 appears to have gone to Jay Williams. IMO Ogun is going to find out life without Jason Taylor on the other side is not a bed of roses.

i'll hold out till mid season when the numbers are mre established, but still am happier with gordon and booker

:roflmao:

This is ridiculous! One game dude! Cmon. Best take a look at how many rush yards Miami surrendered (170) vs Chicago (<100) and worry about how we are going to plug that leak.

Round 1 belongs to nobody because both teams lost.

Ogunleye didn't get a sack or that many tackles, but havign watched the game i can say he did contribute alot on what was a pretty good effort by da Bears. They should have won, they really outplayed Detroit minus a blocked kick that was returned for a touchdown and Grossman's game ending int.

I realize it is early, that is why I stated "Round 1". The statement about missing Ogun is my opinion, we will see if the play of Williams and/or Bowens is much different than that of Ogun. As far as the rushing yardage I feel Tim Bowens sitting out has more to do with the total. I would be courious to see the breakdown of yardage between the tackles, to the left, and to the right.

I can't fully agree with that. Bowens was out 3 games last year and yet the run defense did not fail. I think the fact that Ogunelye is a complete DE had a touch to do with it.

Or it could be like Wannstedt said, we missed some assignments against the Titans on those long runs... Actually he said we lined up out of possition. I guess we will have to wait until this weekend to see if that is corrected and is the case.

Good point----Do you remember which teams the Dolphins played? Were they running teams? I just think this point is going to make an interesting sub plot. I agree Ogun played the run tough, but I am courious to see what will happen to his sack total when he is focal point of the double teams. Would you take the over or under on 9 sacks? Say what you want about his run stopping, he is getting paid for hitting the QB. There are plenty of DEs out there that can stop the run.

I can't remember the games off the top of my head. I will have to go back and look.

That's why I added the second paragraph about Wannstedts comments. We will find out this weekend if our run defense was a fluke last week. Provided, what Wannstedt said, that is fixed this weekend.

I do know that Ogunleye was great against runs off tackle to the right of the offensive line.

the leak wasn't caused by the loss of Ogun

Total agreement
I some what agree, that's why I am holding judgement for the Bengals game. Rudi Johnson is a good back. I will be very interested to see if we stuff him. If we do, then Wannstedt was right and I am flat out wrong.

I just don't remember in recent years of our defense giving up around 180 yards to one back in a single game.

I smell fluke... but time will tell.

-EDIT-
My comment on Ogunleye protecting the off tackle runs still stands though. He was very quick to identify and shed blockers to get to the back.

I am not saying he was the end all be all. I was actually happy with the trade to move more balance to the offense.

In your opinion.

I think he has something to do with it. IMO OGUN would have shut some of those runs down.

Fluke my arse!
Everyone likes to regurgitate the chorus that preseason doesn't mean anything...the one consistency we had on defense was giving up rushing yardage.
Right now I'm concerned. Timbo's back doesn't seem to be getting better.
It spells trouble if other teams already smell blood. For a passing team like the Titans to switch up their game plan and run it down our throats is telling enough that our weakness has have been exposed.
