Even if you are a perfect physical specimen going from College to the NFL success is a huge gamble. Why add another gamble on top of that with a severely under weight receiver? There has been talk for months that the NFL was not as high on Smith as the fans were. Whether that proves to be true or not? Who knows.
I do think guys like @NBP81 are correct that Smith is almost getting slandered with some of the criticisms (a host on Sirius XM said they had flashbacks to Peter Warrick with Smith), but one fact is that someone of Smith's size (really weight) is rare in the NFL so there is a feeling he is too small.
Doesn't mean he won't be successful (far from it) but people are holding his build against him.
As for Waddle? Ever since the initial trades were announced I've had the sneaky suspicion he may be the guy
I think that is a really great point about Tuas skillset..waiting and throwing up jump balls is just not his game.Waddle seems to me like the best fit. We already have 3 big guys in Parker, Williams, Gesicki. We lack speed and burst. Tua is not a contested jump ball thrower, so it seems like the addition of speed and separation would be the best fit. Waddle can play slot or out wide. Chase played maybe only 1/5 of his snaps from the slot, per Path to the Draft, I think I saw that number.
Anyway, ...doesn't mean Miami takes Waddle. But Smith could play either out or slot, but lacks Waddle's speed. So it is very interesting.
