Eastern Conference Player of the Month: Dwyane Wade

NEW YORK, Jan. 4 –The Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade and the Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki today were named Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played during the month of December.


Wade led the Heat to a league-best 14-1 record during December, averaging 23.0 points on 48.4% shooting, 7.7 assists and 5.9 rebounds. He recorded his first career triple-double and only the fifth in franchise history with 31 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds against Detroit on December 30. Wade scored at least 20 points in 12 games, including a career-high eight consecutive games to finish the month, and recorded double-figure assists on five occasions, including a career-high three consecutive games from December 21-25.

Eastern Conference Coach of the Month: Stan Van Gundy

Miami Heat head coach Stan Van Gundyand Phoenix Suns head coach Mike D’Antoni today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Coaches of the Month for games played in December.

Van Gundy led Miami to a 14-1 record, a Heat franchise record for any month. The team also set a franchise record by winning 13 consecutive games in one month, and won their last 7 road games, the team’s longest streak since an 11-game road winning streak in 1998. Miami ranks first in field goal percentage, shooting 49.6% and held opponents to 43.3% shooting.
