Wake needs a new move.

Nate Solder HELD his own? You are right... He was HOLDING... ALL NIGHT LONG. It was the only way he could stop wake. One time I saw him literally SIT on Wake, and not get called. The refs refused to call anything on the kid.

Maybe Wake needs to start complaining more (legit concern). Anytime Ocho went for the ball he bickered, we all know Brady whines about everything. Complain enough they'll probably call it.

I've got news for some of you. You can grab a guy as long as you're not outside of his chest area. Lineman are taught to try and grab the defender right under the shoulder pads where it comes over the chest. If you've ever worn them, you know were I'm talking about. That's textbook technique and what every lineman is taught. For the most part Solder had him exactly where he should have (pinned by the pads) and was rag dolling him. It's holding when your arms are beyond that chest area and it's why holding is often called when the lineman reaches out for a blocker that gets by them or, as you said, has a arm around them. You can grab a guy by the numbers on his jersey all day as long as you keep him controlled like that...it's legal.

Around here if Wake doesn't get to the QB on every play it is obviously holding.

Funny thing is, everytime Brady got knocked (it was few and far but still) he would turn straight to the ref and just stare.

Solder did hold, but he also played amazing for a rookie. Everybody holds Cam Wake and he still manages to make them look stupid. He did not make Solder look stupid.

There is no "thinking" about it, dude was held hardcore. Watch the tape doc.

Watching the tape right now. Bottom line is the refs are NOT going to call what you think is "holding" on anybody (read CleatMarks post above) so as I say, get used to it

Cameron Wake was getting held a hell of a lot, but Solder was still getting the best of Wake even when he wasn't holding.

He was being held a lot but they weren't calling it. They only called it once the entire game.

And they shouldn't have called it, because it was not holding. 90% of the time Solder had his feet squared up and his arms inside of Wake's shoulders. When OLinemen do that, the refs will never call holding even though they are clutching the defender's jersey and pads.

The time he was flagged for holding was when Wake beat him and he reached out and grabbed him. That was holding and will be called every time.

This one is on Nolan. He got plain 'schooled' by Bellichick and Brady. They know he LOVES his personnel packages and uses his entire roster... The up tempo was a brilliant move to counter that... Jaws even said 'at some point you have got to stop with the subs and just play some ball.'

The worst was at half time we were still in it and I expected Nolan to really simplify things and not depend so much on matchups... But we got more of the same... The boys looked lost out there while Brady carved them up like Christmas turkey. Nolan didnt have any kind of answer to help Wake out.

As long as his hands were on his chest and inside the shoulderpads, no olineman will get called for holding. For the most part, thats what he was doing.

HOLDING:

i will never be tagged on the board as a blind homer for sure and i HATE excuses for no points and missed plays and poor performances. but that rookie, solder, he got away with MASSIVE holding ALL NIGHT LONG on wake. he was called one time. that first pancake he gave wake that the anouncers went all ga-ga over, solder had a nice big handfull of jersey as soon as wake turned the corner, then wrapped his arms around him from the back and rode him all the way to the ground. i am suprised wake didnt have to change jerseys 3 or 4 times during that game!!

i guess the finz are not using cheap, chinese knock off jerseys. [good for them, no one should!!]

Wrong, when you grab a handful of jersey...that is holding, it doesn't matter if it is between the shoulder pads or the back of his jersey...you can't grab the jersey to keep a player from making a play...which is what Solder did all night and got away with.

Not to say the non holding calls were the reason we lost the game, bad coverage had a lot to due with it and no pressure on Brady, and bad play call on fourth down and a foot, they should have used Reggie Bush's speed advantage against the LB more often during the game.

Not true at all. If it was, you would have holding called on every single play.

As long as you are squared up infront of the defender with your arms and elbows in, you can grab any part of the defenders jersey or pads, as long as you don't throw him to the ground.

One thing that I've noticed in watching Wake (and I've watched him a lot, starting with the CFL), is that one of his favorite moves - i.e. outside speed, followed by low cornering - does not work nearly so well on grass as it does on turf. Fact is, in Canada we play a lot on turf, and for an explosive player like Wake, who loves to get low, it's perfect. But on grass, when you corner that hard, the surface gives out and the lineman just falls on you.

On grass, his sacks will largely come from his work ethic (as opposed to his speed), and as we saw last night, that may not be enough...

Richie Incognito got called for holding doing the same exact thing Solder was getting away with, so the refs have to be fair and call it both ways or don't call it at all is what I am saying.
