I know we selected Charles Harris 22nd overall in the first round of the 2017 draft. I know we wanted someone to groom behind Wake, who will obviously be retiring in the next 3 years. But could we have accidentally fallen into an even better replacement in the prime of his career?

Robert Quinn was acquired for basically nothing and he's a monster. He's also only 28. If he takes some tips from Wake on longevity and plays until he's 36 (the age Wake is currently) that's 8 full seasons of terrorizing Darnold, Allen and a cyborg Tom Brady.

Does that give us a pass if Harris is a bust?

Obviously no one wants to waste a first round pick on a dud, but if Harris ends up washing out, did we dodge a bullet when we landed Quinn? If the goal was to have another 10+ sack artist, mission accomplished...just through free agency.

What do you guys think? Is Robert Quinn next in line for Wake's inevitable torch-passing? Does Harris have what it takes to be Quinn's replacement?

I’ve said this from the moment he was drafted even the rubber doesn’t hit the road on Charles Harris til 2019.

If anything Robert Quinn’s addition may even give him more time.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. If anything you just add Quinn to our draft this year since we got him for a 4 round pick but Harris is a different matter.

Dudes like Wake are exceedingly rare! Not to beat a dead horse but Harris will NEVER remotely remind anyone of Cam.

Beyond that -- every team in the N F L is out to poach a game-changer edge rusher in EVERY draft.

Point is -- Cam Wake was prob Ireland's BEST EVER move and of course he came from the CFL.

Last point -- sometimes there isn't 1 player in the draft (as time proves out) that is a legit dominant edge rusher.

Dudes get over drafted ALL the time. Obviously Harris fits that spec.

Really cause Cam SUCKED when he was Harris’ age.

Man no disrespect but this bust crap after two years is not a smart take. Don’t be that guy.

Don't be the guy who watches college football and is able to think independently from all the idiots who are constantly, perpetually wrong? Nah.

Harris was never, on any planet inhabited by people who know what they're looking at when football is on, ever a 1st round prospect. Wasn't recruited like it. Didn't play like it. Didn't test like it. What else is there?

People need to consider that when they draft you in the first round in the 20s no less they control you for 4 years with an after year 3 option. Relative to the free agent market for the position being de or edge that rookie contract is dirt cheap to a team.

They are gonna give these kids 3 years to show before they either pick up that option and plan for the future with them or give them that 4th year to see where they end up. Or start making plans to replace/upgrade them.

In terms of planning for the future position wise relative to the cap I’d say it’s harris quinn and a 2019 de draft add. And Quinn they only control thru 2019 it’s very possible after that they would turn it over to harris and that rookie add provided they look the part in harris case being by end of year 3 and rookie draft picks case going into their sophomore year.

But when you control these kids for 4 years unless health is a factor they will give you 3 years before they move on. It’s cap positional management and hoping to make good on the initial draft investment. Assuming you don’t just show them that you don’t want to play football.

So the rubber hits the road for 17 guys like harris, and charlton both first round picks and even Jordan Willis 3rd rounder with a 4th year rfa tender option come 2019.

And Wake did?

And relative to the 2017 43 de draft class that are being geared towards playing every down and that’s a key part of this the every down part only Myles Garrett is crushing it. And he was the #1 overall pick.

So it’s also possible that entire 17 43 de fit class is just not a good one.

Come 2019 it’s **** or get off the pot.
