I think this happened because Chris Carter talked Dan into something he wasn't prepared to do. Sound familiar? Dan talked Chris into something he wasn't prepared to do a couple years ago :D
Marino is a great guy, but to be honest I have never been wowed by him in regard to football knowledge. (I'm not talking about playing football) Who knows how this would have worked out? I think that the management team would have been a little fragile with Marino's stature within the organization. As soon as Dan & Chris Speilman had a difference of opinion, I could see Chris being shown the door in favor of someone Dan hired.
I'm rather disappointed in Dan's change of heart but I think that things will work out for the best this way.
