Walker: Hickey received offers to trade down at 19 but wanted to stay to pick James

But he wouldn't have been there for the Fins as all the Nostradamuses have claimed. All this BPA stuff is nonsense. You have to fill needs. If the Fins had James rated as a 1st round talent, so be it. IMO, they got a guy who will be a first day starter. Didn't we spend all last season bitching that the BPA that we drafted didn't get on the F'n field?

Well maybe you had a 1st round grade there in the top 20 I sure as hell didn't even still unless hickey tries to patch this with I thought zona was James at 20 which I doubt but anyways he failed forward fast...that grade was too high anyways

Tested better as a move athlete than u see on tape...IMO more a 10 foot box tackle...awareness down the field in the run game lacking but shows on stunts and switches in pass pro

In your opinion, not considering the possible trade, how will he fair in the fins offense? An offense that uses the pass to set up the run. Something that really astounded me is the play selection on 2nd and 3rd and short. When I looked at the play selection from last year the Fins threw the ball on 2nd and 3rd and short about 65-70% of the time because that is how Philbin dictates the offense be run and also because the oline couldn't run block for **** in those circumstances. (I don't have the exact numbers as I'm on the road traveling). Is James a T that could thrive in an offense based on this philosophy?

I think if we run an o that utilizes mostly box tackles and real move guards like UVA with Lazor this makes sense but the further down the field James gets the less interesting and lost he looks...maybe Benton can work on that...just don't expect the athlete he tested as minus the 40...

If you want a right tackle that moves guys off the ball in the run game or wins consistently in it this is not and I stress is not the guy

Right... And which NFL franchise are you running?

I like the pick lol.

love ya finheaven!

btw, the man did say they had a first round grade on him.

Mike Mayock said "the tape on the kid grows on ya"

Not sure I believe anything one jimmy walker from ESPN says what we had or didnt have.

I would have preferred to trade back but I guess they had him rated higher than most draftniks so it is what it is . Hopefully we have our starting tackle for the next 10 years.

Can you please point out who is denying there weren't two offers that Hickey turned down?

I believe, and IMO it is no small detail, some here are saying the details of the offers are unknown to us the public in general.
What details do you need? We have direct comparisons with the trade Arizona made so I think we have a very clear idea of what the details were. Opportunities to add value with little to no risk are generally good moves.

So for all the people that said we don't know. Well we don't know but it sure sounds like he had offers. It probably wont matter anyway next year when Philbin is fired
If you didn't know before, now you know.

That was a torpedo right square into Philbin's side.

Nice knowing you Joe.

I put the over under at 9.5 games.

I will take Benton's word on James over any stinker on this site

Benton had every reason to say no to giving James a Rd 1 grade

Don't cha think?

Right... And which NFL franchise are you running?

Aha hash he's sitting here like all of us....Good job to FinheAven for giving him the I'm a ............. Award....Wine whine whine....Hooshoops acts like a tackle should be 40 yards down the field blocking...Wtf !

All, it's not that Hickey didn't have conviction on James. He must have. The point.......And thus the art of the NFL draft is...... Could you trade down and still get a guy you wanted. It doesn't have to be the exact guy..... But trade down and get one of 5 or 6 guys you wanted and pick up extra draft picks. There is no question we could have traded down. IMO.....We should have traded down. The rub is this..... Is James SO much better than the guys that were available at 26 or 27? I say not even close. This means..... Again IMO...... That Hickey has failed his first test as an NFL GM.

James had better be a pro bowler at RT very quickly. At the VERY LEAST..... He better beat out Jason Fox and start opening day. If not..... Hickey just wasted the 19th overall selection.
