Wannstedt on Burnett signing: link

"Burnett went sackless in 2001 as a starting defensive end."

Maybe he'll turn things around and contribute some, but don't expect him to be the second coming of Mean Joe Green or whomever.

Dolphins sign free-agent Burnett - Sun-Sentinel.com

I am very disappointed in this statement
"We'd like to use him in situations like we did with Trace Armstrong," Dolphins vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman said of the Dolphins former third-down pass-rush specialist
, but will reserve judgement til pre-season. Still I loved D Bo's energy last year and think he is a better pash rusher than Burnett in 2002. :(

I wouldn't worry about that too much 39,I'm sure that if Bowens or Wally Gator can get to the QB more often than Burnett, then Burnett will sit on the bench waiting for DG or JT to get hurt before he can play. May the best pass rusher win!

He can't pass rush, he should be used on first and second downs and on rushing third downs, while David Bowens should be the passing third down guy. **** Gardener, he will get injured anyway.

So, you would like to see Gardener on the bench, just because he might get injured?? Even though he is ten times the player we have at any other position on the Defensive Line??

DG will get sacks on first and second then he'll move inside on some third downs and sack the QB from there! And he wont get hurt at all this year, the back thing will be a forgotten experience after this Pro-Bowl performance!

Taylor is way better than Gardener and I would rather see Burnett at the other DE position as he is more suited at the position.

DG is a dominating player when healthy, and he is almost surely going to be the starter for 2002 at LE (He will reportedly move to DT on third-downs). I hope his back can hold up. We'll see...

Iceblizzard, I think that a statement like that should be saved until training camp. I seriously doubt you have been watched DG practice, so to make such a comment at this time makes no sense. I personally believe he will be fine. If he is fast enough, he will wreak havic on his side of the line.

in Ice's defense, we have yet to see DG play at DE and I agree that JT is a better player. But so far he has been outstanding when healthy. The strategy w/an improved Haley, Chester and now Burnett is to ensure that we have a DL that can stand strong ag. the run even if DG is out; but can be dominant ag. the run w/DG. As far as the pash rush goes, I expect us to blitz more or get a great year from D Bo or Wally; but Wanne has said Burnett will be the man on the 3rd down. I expect camp to show that strategy invalid and D Bo will have Lo Bro-like year.
