just wanted to remind everyone that spielman traded our 2002 2nd round pick to trade up in the 2001 draft to get morlon greenwood in the 3rd round and also did the same thing in 2003 when he traded our 2nd round pick in 2004 to get wade smith in the 3rd round ...he also traded a 4th round pick in 2003 for jay williams...and also drafted jamar fletcher in the 1st round...now to be fair-here are some good moves that wanny/spielman made-drafting chris chambers and randy mcmichael...

Yeah they did good with Chamber and McMichael. They addressed BPA at a position they needed and they panned out. SOmetimes the draft is a crapshoot so you need as many picks as possible. The pulled the trigger on the Ricky Williams trade giving up 2 # 1 picks. You would think that a team that has given up 2 # 1 picks would try and keep their picks for the next few years huh?

Spielman got his punishment! He was held around for the draft and then fired, how great was that.

they gave away too many high draft picks when all they got were adequate players...so we had drafts where we didnt get enough players/starters and thats why we are in the mess we are in with the salary cap...im just happy that the j.j./wanny/spielman regime is over...i am very confident in saban...i think we have the right coach at the right time...

Just shows the incompetence... and how someonetimes after trial and error, you can get lucky.

Most of those bad decisions you speak of, were made by DW. At that time RS was more of a consultant. It was DW who wanted Greenwood and Fletcher.

Are you capable of being objective or fair in your analysis? You magnify his mistakes and then you downplay his accomplishments. Let us hope that no one ever judges your job performance that way.

Talk about the sadistic pleasure of kicking a man when he's down.

Wasn't much of analysis just personal feelings I have against Wanny and Spielman... wasn't meant to be taken that seriously. :D But yeah you're right.

I didn't know Spielman was our GM in 2001?

Oh wait, he wasn't.

C'mon, JL. By any objective measure outside of a few wingnuts in here, Spielman did a horrible job.

He was tied to the Wanny philosophy until last year when he somehow managed to do more harm as a GM than his mentor.
