PLEASE DON'T TELL ME YOU'RE DEFENDING WANNSTEDT!!!!!!!!!!!! Wanny was much more laid back than JJ and the players responded to that at first. We wouldn't have been in the situation we were in had Wannstedt drafted and used free agency in a competent manner.
He took on a developed team built with Jimmy's picks, which he then added nothing to and slowly let decay into the 4-12 piece of awesome he pooped out at the end. It's pretty common knowledge. The guy just isn't a good coach. Sure, he's brought in some talent in Pitt, but he still can't coach a game well.
Regarding those 10-win seasons Wanny's defenders keep reverting to, my response is "just think how much better a record, and further into the playoffs we'd have gone those years if we had a GOOD coach!"
No doubt, that defense was incredible, and all for nothing. An awesome defense, a great running attack, and a serviceable passing game, and all he could muster was 1 playoff win in only 2 playoff appearances? He ran with JJ's players, but never added anything to it, and in the end, it really showed.
His fault towards the end was relying on Ricky to carry the entire offense, and neglecting every other part of it.
He was better than Cam, but that's not saying a whole lot.
He was also a coach at Miami longer than JJ was.
