One of the most difficult things to swallow in recent years has been the draft picks we have given away. In the Wanny era, we have been one of the most charitable organizations in the NFL.

We gave up an extra pick to get Morlon Greenwood, who has been a servicable, but not outstanding linebacker. We gave up a fourth round pick to get Vernon Carey, a first-rounder who is sitting on the bench and can't crack the worst O-line in the NFL. How about the second rounder to draft Wade Smith? Oh boy, we spent a third round pick on the worst LT in the NFL and gave New England a second rounder they used for Corey Dillon (ouch). Nothing like helping out the competition.

Then there's Ricky. In what looked to be a good trade for us, we now look back at giving up two first rounders for Ricky and we know why New Orleans was laughing so hard they couldn't breathe.

Even passing on Pete Kendall, who would've have helped us, gave the Jets an opportunity to get him and he has helped their line tremendously.

I'll tell you..... between the stupid penalties, turnovers, and lost draft picks we have really hurt ourselves. I think this self-destructive behavior by Wanny and company is what upsets me most about this regime.

As much as I like building a team with already proven playes, I agree with you. We need to stop sending draft picks away. We need to start acting like Jimmy Johnson and start building through the draft.

Squandering draft picks is the cardinal sin in the salary cap era. Those draft picks are the ONLY way to get good, cheap young players and have a prayer of staying under the cap.

Overpaying (in terms of draft picks) for a "marquee" running back is particularly bad cap management. What's the upside? An extra 320 yards a season over a veteran journeyman 1000 yard back? That's only 20 yards of offense per game. And, you're lucky if you get three years before he blows out a knee. RBs are commodity items. Spend the draft picks on players that are nearly impossible to acquire in free agency without blowing a hole through the cap -- left tackles, D-linemen, wide receivers, pass catching TE's, defensive backs.

You can't afford to use old-school philosophies in new-school cap era.

Of course, Buffalo screwed it up just as bad. They sent a first round draft pick to the Patriots for an old-school QB. Then, made the bone-headed move of all time, wasting a first round pick on a running back who had to spend a year in a rehab clinic for a blown-out knee. I would say it's at best 50%/50% that McGahee ever starts in the NFL. Truly insane.

Meanwhile, the Pats have three young first round picks starting on the D-line and two young first round picks starting at TE (the HOTEST position in the NFL with the new pass defense rules). One of these first rounders leads the AFC in touchdown receptions so far this year. Not to mention Corey Dillon, picked up with freebie draft pick from a division rival! If he decides to retire to Jamaica after two years, what will it have cost the Pats? A third round pick in exchange for a couple of 1200+ yard seasons? Fair enough.

We won't be building anytime soon. Wanny has traded our future for his bungled attempts at winning today. He has mortgaged the teams future in a desparate effort to save his own skin. Shame on him!

I believe in todays NFL you must Build your team through Free Agency and sprinkle in quality depth through the draft. This isnt a "rule" but it is my belief.

Look at the Cardnals for example, they dont do much in FA but boy do they always have their draft picks and they are always high picks. They are a perennial losing franchise.

Another thing. We wouldnt be in this position had he not retired.

Well maybe we would be because our OLINE is terrible but injuries have really killed us this season.

:dunno:

-Correct. We are dead in the water with little fire power in the upcoming drafts. This is where NE should get alot of credit as they made several moves to stockpile picks.

I agree with most, Kendell would of been a great addition, but Morlon is not playing all the time, when Seau leaves next year you will see more of him... For now we can't really cut on him too bad.

all 100% true. But lets not play the heinsight game with Ricky. Don't tell me even the few that were skepticle weren't creaming in their pants after the first year with Ricky. I won't believe anyone who says different. That's not too say that two first rounders wasn't suspect even then for a Rb (as you said a common commodity these days) on just about any other team. But you have to take into account that this is Mia -- where no real stud running back has lined up in 30 years. We didn't care, especially after what we saw rocky do in '02. And to be honest, looking back, we were right not to care. Things changed obviously. But anyone who didn't have the balls to criticize the trade back then, shouldn't be doing it now. I agree with eveything else you said however. Wanny has given away draft pick like mini-cheese samples at a supermarket. And for what? garbage. You forgot Eddie Moore. I don't need to tell you who we could have had in that second round.

unfortunately, Arizona can't use him either

Morlon signed a 1 year deal this past offseason, because he was an RFA....next year he's a UFA...we'll see if they resign him, considering their plan all along was to let him leave so Eddie could take over his spot

Even if that clown, Ricky had stayed and not retired, our offense would still be awful. Even Ladanian Tomlinson would be screwed behind our line. Does anyone believe there is a worse O line in the NFL? If so, please tell me where.

Besides even with Ricky, we'd essentially be one injury away from total offensive ineptitude like we're experiencing now. For this debacle, you have to place blame squarely on Wanny. In today's NFL you have to have a back up plan because you're almost guranteed injuries to key players. Look at what the Patsies have done the last couple of years. Wanny has loaded up on defense and left the offense high and dry. Wanny simply isn't qualified to be head coach. He could be a good coordinator, but that's it.:fire:

You guys really think ricky would have made that much of a difference with this Oline? I mean he just cracked 1300 last year at 3.3 yards a carry -- and this line is much worse. I say Ricky barely cracks 1,000 this year with these plugs blocking for him

Point is this year we go for a QB no ifs or buts unless there is a LT there or a very good DT.

However I feel the best thing to do is to revamp the coaching staff priority one. Hopefully someone can get the OL to be decent, utilize Chambers, Boston, and Booker, and our TEs.

At QB either Feeley or a vet. and draft a QB.

The defense seems to be finding new youth to replace old players without even trying.
