I just read an article that suggested drafting or picking up a fa center and moving pouncy over to rg. Not sure I like the idea bc Pouncey wasnt great at guard a few years ago, but this may be easier than picking up two guards if they move BA.

The article also talked about letting BA go and use his money on a big name guard and move tunsil over. This I am ok with, hopefully leary becomes a FA.

The last thing got me really thinking. They suggested trading Reshad Jones. They think we will have to over pay to keep him. I love Jones but wanted to see your thoughts. would you trade him for picks or a player to save cap, or would you rather see us make him the highest paid safety like he wants?

Think this is from the 5 Bold Move article and it is already being discussed here in this thread:

http://www.finheaven.com/showthread...es-the-Dolphins-can-make-ahead-of-free-agency

Also if IIRC even your two questions are being discussed there. I thought the article was pretty good up until he said trade Jones and Pouncy wasn't too good as a RG when he played a season or two ago. But, maybe he was still injured.

I would do everything reasonably possible to bring Jones back. His presence improves our defense in many ways. He will support our young CB's, he will bring continuity and assignments in line with a new LB core and finally he is one of our better tacklers and run-stoppers. He is worth tendering or Franchise tag next year after a healthy 2017 season.

Albert: Only way I would release him is IF we can get 2 starting Gaurds in free agency, not a draft project. Not sure if he can be our swing tackle? Would he accept a pay-cut?

Pouncy: Either he comes back at center or we draft his replacement. I don't want to move him around to other positions. If we didn't have so many other needs, I would look to replace him this year. Pouncy is the gamble we may have to take and hope he has recovered and will perform at a high level.

Rashard Jones is the heartbeat of the defense. You can say it's Suh or Wake. But when Jones went down the defense really starting to go downhill. I honestly think Jones is the best SS in the game no disrespect to Chancellor

On Pouncey at RG? He was a RG at UF after trying out at LG then OC after his twin left early. IMO, He mailed it in. No way a guy as gifted as he is could be that bad. His self-professed love for the OC position won't let him concentrate at becoming a very good OG. IMO Part 2, with his superb athleticism and lack of power at POA hes better off at LG (the LG pulls more often).

On Jones? No way do give a very good run stopper an extension coming off a extensive shoulder surgery. Time will time if the player needs another surgery or is fully recovered.
Nothing personal just good business

The defense couldn't have been that bad after he went down we won 8 out of the next 9 games

Allowed the most yards in franchise history but sure wasnt that bad

You have to be strong up the middle, trading Jones makes very little sense IMO. We need a stud at mike to fix the Defense. BTW we won 8 out of 9 despite our D not because of it.

The team got better when Jones went down but not because he got injured. The offense got better and allowed us to win more games. Can you imagine had Jones not been injured? Maybe we would have won a playoff game... maybe not. We have more holes to fill than our Safeties but trading away one of the best in the game will not make things better in any way.

These 5 bold moves are horrible in my opinion. We do need a rookie center to groom behind Pouncey who can spell him in case of injury but not because we should have Pouncey move to Guard. Letting Brandon Albert walk this offseason will hurt us because we will create more holes that will need to be filled to be successful. Keeping Albert and drafting a Guard would create depth and give time to new offensive linemen to work their way in.

Trading Reshad Jones would be idiotic.

Jones, we don't trade him but we also do not extend him yet. Let the season play out and make a decision. Pouncey is a little tougher as he really opens up the running game by getting to the second level, but his hip is a HUGE concern. With him, I think it depends on what is available, however the guard thing doesn't do anything for his injury concerns as it is just as brutal at that position. If he plays, he is a center.

I don't understand why everyone is so against replacing Albert and Pouncey. One big argument is that it will create more holes. News flash... this team is full of holes! Another 2 won't even matter. Philbin took over a half-decent team that just needed some talent on offense and completely ruined it. Under Philbin's command (with help from Ireland and Tannenbaum), Tannehill was sacked more than any other QB over 4 seasons because Philbin and the Front Office failed to build a good o-line. On defense, Philbin/Coyle dismantled a Top 5 Rushing Defense and now they can't stop anyone. They can barely tackle, and have no idea how to cover the middle of the field. There is little to no depth (except at WR), and too many of Miami's starters should be back-ups. The roster needs to be overhauled, and the PERFECT time to begin this is with the start of a new regime. Gase had one season to see who can play and who can't. Trying to add "band-aids" to a poor team won't help... you need to first start with a good, solid team and then improve it with talent. Miami is not a good, solid team; they need a lot of help.

A lot of holes that currently need to be filled should have been filled last off-season, but Tannenbaum gave away too many present and future draft picks for a nobody WR who barely saw the field. Tunsil will replace Albert, but where is Pouncey's replacement? Relying on these two overpaid injury-prone linemen is hurting the team; they need to replace these guys and move forward. With so many holes to fill and under-performing players to replace Tannenbaum should have traded down for more picks, but he's an idiot. A big reason why they started 1-4 was because of the poor play of the o-line. Thomas and Turner were two of the absolute worst Guards in the entire league in 2015, yet Tannenbaum opened the 2016 season with them still on the roster (and starting, no less). The o-line will never be fixed under Tannenbaum; he'll continue to overpay part-timers who spend too much time on the bench and sign aging/injured band-aids as stopgaps. I predict that he'll pay big bucks to a defensive Free Agent who will be a bust in Miami. Tannenbaum will also trade up in the draft again and give away more picks just to chase after a big name instead of actually doing his job and filling holes to improve the overall roster.

Because of his injuries, it just makes sense to cut Albert. With the $7 million Miami could get a pretty good guard and move Tunsil to LT.

I'd keep Jones and leave Pouncey at center. That said, I'd look for an offensive lineman in the draft who can play both center and guard. IMO Pouncey has to be on a short leash simply because he can't stay healthy. Love the player, but have to be prepared for him to miss time.

Most reasonable people should understand we can't go into the season with Albert and Pouncey on the starting line AGAIN. Cutting Pouncey this year doesn't make sense but might be an option next season if/when he misses games in 2017. This thread should be merged into the other thread - and I agree most of the "bold moves" aren't very good ones.
