He should have gave Saban his "no fire clause" (Wayne never fires anyone anyway, he didn't even want to fire Wanny when he did and had to be talked into it)

But in return Saban had to give Miami a clause. That he can't talk with any other college or pro team for the life of the contract. So, we don't go through this again. Also, Saban gives Miami a 1 year exclusive negotining <sp> period when his deal is up. So, Miami has exclusive rights to talk to him before he can entertain any other offers.

haha, wayne even gave him a 2 year extension the year before "4-12." the irony that he doesnt want to throw away the trash is staggering...

on your point, wayne shouldnt be forced to keep Saban, if he were to underperform again next year, im pretty sure all of us would be crying to off him. this has just all turned into ridiculousness. just gimme his answer and im either for Saban or done with Saban. The End.

MikeO, you've been bashing Saban about this since Alabama surfaced as having any interest. Let's wait until this afternoon when a desicion will be made final to start blaming people all the time.

You must be kidding. If the reports are accurate, Saban effectivel tried to blackmail Huizenga by saying "either you guarantee in written form that you won't fire me, no matter how bad my records might become, or I'm walking out on you right now." While any ammount of common sense tells you never to agree to such a clause in the first place, even the slightest bit of decency makes it obvious to answer with "so long, Nick" to such a blatant attempt of blackmailing.

Dude, get your facts straight. Huizenga never fired Wannstedt.

Great idea. And if Saban goes 1-15 next season and realizes he is indeed way over his head in the NFL, no side is able to do something about it. It's the marriage from hell.

Yeah right...giving a coach a "no fire" clause who already has so much authority is laughable. The only thing that would ensure is that the Dolphins are held captive until his contract expires regardless of the job that he's doing on the field. Wayne may not know much about football, but he is a shrewd business man, and that would be a horrible business decision. Coaches need to be worried about getting fired if they do not produce. Wayne has given Saban everything he's needed to be successful, and it's Saban's turn to live up to his end of the bargain, or get out of town.

Whether he goes or stays means nothing.

It's all about HOW YOU CONDUCT YOUR BUSINESS!!!! Saban has been doing this in a shaddy way and comes off looking bad. Say one thing then do another. Says he has no interest in Alabama (when he really did) and then meets with him 1 day after the season ends. If ya have no interest why meet with them?????????????????????????????????????????????????

He is shaddy and has conducted his business very poorly!! Whether he stays or goes at this point means nothng!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True. But that doesn't mean we have to hire them or stick with them. 32 NFL teams, not every head coach is shaddy. Andy Reid isn't. Coughlin isn't. Shell isn't. Romeo isn't. Marty isn't. The list is endless!!!!!!!!

We should aim high and not settle for mediocrity!!

Wayne H. didn't officially fire Wanny. Wanny resigned in the middle of the season, the week of the break.
You cannot give a coach a "no fire clause" because you are asking for trouble. If a coach shows that his team isn't going in a positive direction and said coach has a " no fire clause" contract, where does that leave the organization? That's just as bad as a team changing coaches every 2-3 years because of the constant changes.

could you imagine a no cut contract and we go 6-10, 5-11, 6-10 and after every game, Saban does his "hissy fit" in front of the media and then praises his players for their great effort. I say "no mas".

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I think Wayne has handled this situation to perfection. Saban has insulted Wayne, the fans, and this franchise with the way he conducted himself throughout all of this. He has no place in Miami even if he wanted to come back in my opinion. The media / fans don't want him back now, and considering that Wayne practically laughed in his face, I don't think he wants Saban back either....

PHINZ RULE!!!!!

Agreed...Personally, I would've fired Saban for meeting with the AD after telling Wayne he was committed to his job.

Agree completely.

he wasn't mediocre when he was hired...

look, we've learned, albeit the hard way, the kind of coach/person saban is. for one, i think he's to wishy-washy in his delivery to the press...not wanting to say the wrong thing, you know.

the players seem to like his approach as a coach. they like playing for him.

turning things around will take time...2 years may have been too optimistic to hope we would be at the top again.

if he wants to go, wayne should not stand in his way. i think you'll agree, we want his mind and heart 100%.

bringing in another coach to run the team, from the pro ranks, may not necessarily be a bad thing.

i think if this happens, wayne will be more careful about the clauses in the new guy's contract.

we all have learned.
