Made the trip to Philly.....intense game and Miami D was bringing the heat - they slammed Bradford more than a few times as he got rid of ball and crushed Sanchez on one play (the pass to Eagles WR Matthews where he also got hammered and left game)......I was actually surprised to see Sanchez get up.

But, all in all a sloppy game by two sloppy teams although I'm happy we walked away with the win. Obviously this type of play will not hold up against the top level teams and it looks like we'll be in some games against mediocre teams but those will probably be down to the wire nail biters where we win/lose depending on luck and how many boneheaded plays are made .....Damien Williams anyone???

BTW......What has happened to Tannehill scrambling/running for yardage like in the past?.....he didn't run at all today although there were several times the option was there to do so and get a 1st down or close to it. He has always run well and made some good yards but now it seems he's handcuffed to staying in the pocket or rolling and throwing.....wonder if he has been told not to use his judgment (which, for whatever you want to criticize him for, his decisions to take off and try to make yards have normally been good) and to throw it away if play is not there. IMO this takes away a valuable tool in the bag of tricks......if teams have to worry about him running they will at least have to honor the possibility of it happening but won't if he never even attempts it at any point in a game.

I don't see why Tannehill shouldn't run. He probably takes more hits standing in the pocket. At least when he runs he can slide.

That's one of my biggest beefs with Tannehi. He has to become better at using his legs to pick up yardage. Its a weapon and gives the defense one more thing to worry about, they turn their back on you, pull that ball down and make them pay every time. You see less athletic QBs doing all the time - It's a shame for Ryan to waste that God given athleticism and going forward I hope he taps into that even more...

Btw how'd you enjoy the stadium? How were the fans, I heard Philly fans have a tendency to get pretty nasty.

I was at the game as well. Great turnout by dolphins fans. Ive been to jets dolphins game at the meadowlands and now to the Linc, and at all times, the dolphins faithful shows up strong.
Very strong presence here in the NY/NJ/PA area.

Good point on RT not running ever. I was going to make a thread about it yesterday but was too lazy. I don't get it. Playing QB is not natural for this guy.

His overall pocket presence and internal clock has regressed . . . . watched Carson Palmer last night and man that guy was taking heat all night, and yet his footwork, know how to move around and step up in the pocket was the type of stuff we haven't seen around here in years.

The oline is not good here, but people need to realize the QB plays a part in that as well . . . to the point where plugging in new guys at positions probably has less of an impact than how a QB manuevers the pocket and helps the guys in front of him.

Sure, I'm ready for all the sarcasm posts of . . . . "he only has 2 seconds" . . . . when Ryan can consistently move that pocket and make teams pay with his mobility and footwork . . . you'll see teams back down more and not crowd the box, our offense like to play in, as much.

I don't think it is an instinctive thing as you suggest, I think it is the offense. Under Sherman, RT ran a lot his first two years. Over last year and half of this new offense under Lazor you can clearly see he isn't being asked to run. We used to have designed runs built into the offense, but don't call them anymore and I can't recall the last time we ran a QB sneak when we needed a yard.

RT has proven he can run, but we don't ask him to do it....which is a huge mistake in my opinion.

Good quarterbacks sense the pressure coming. For example, Marino, despite being slow-footed, was very good at being able to sidestep away from pressure and buy some time in the pocket. I watched Eli Manning do it several times yesterday afternoon even when the pressure was coming from his blind side. It's part of the skill set for the good ones. Tannehill just doesn't seem to have that kind of "feel." Sometimes the sacks come from right in front of him and you'd swear he never saw the defender coming. It's frustrating. There are some things he does well but I never get the feeling that he'll ever become the complete package and the shortcomings leave too many points on the table.

In Lazor's system, he'll never move forward. We are stuck Ryan for at least another year, so I'm not gonna complain about whether we should keep him or not, we are keeping him . . . so if that is the case, swing the bat at OC and see if we can find the perfect match between that guy and Ryan. It's our best shot for success on offense in the immediate future.

But yes in the end, I have had the same feeling as you, not sure if he'll ever be that guy that commands the pocket and makes his footwork and instincts the thing to fear the most. People can continue to scapegoat the oline like they are the reason, but the QB plays a huge part in pass pro and Ryan just isn't at the level you see these top level QBs are at.

That said, criticism of Tannehill had very little to do with yesterday . . . he managed the game well enough to win, and I'll take it. What we saw from him yesterday is our QB in a nutshell . . . why people wanna make it into more than what it is, I just can't understand.

I agree. For better or worse, our horse is hitched to that wagon until we get to the point where we can afford to throw draft picks at the qb position ...and we're at least a couple or three years from that at best. RT will continue to shine some weeks and leave us scratching our heads in others.

Emotions. Fans generally overestimate the worth of their own players.
Years ago I used to let my heart sink or soar with every game. Now I laugh at the ineptitude.

Hey look....another thread taken over by the tannehate crew. So what is it that's his fault here, not running? So now you're taking over another thread to blame RT for not running the ball more, in some attempt to "further prove" he isn't a capable QB. Maybe you guys should consider a little thing called offensive play calling...or scheme if you will. It's not his choice what play is called in to him. I know, you think he should just break protocol and start fleeing for his life more often.....but then that would be admitting there's a problem with the Oline on a regular basis so be sure not to say that.

A few guys have mentioned it.

I think before he was being sent plays that were designed for him to run first,

now it is up to him & he is just a little slow in processing things it seems.

It's like he is always thinking about what to do, and too slow to consistently make the play,

Glad you were able to make it and enjoy a victory on the road

We were laying out the hits yesterday. That one by Jamar Taylor was unexpected, I didn't think Matthews was going to get up.

No problems for me.....but I wasn't acting like a jackass and over celebrating or throwing it in Eagles fans faces. There were a couple drunk Eagles guys going at it with a guy in Dolphins gear, tossing insults and telling him what a f*%king moron he was for liking the Fins.....but, his mistake was jawing back with them instead of ignoring them. I didn't see any actual fights and after the game things were pretty respectful (but obviously standoffish) among Fins/Eagles fans exiting the stadium and in the parking lots.
