About 15 years ago my son had gotten a Marino rookie card in trade. He wanted to surprise me at christmas. He sent this card to Dan for his autograph. About four weeks later he received in the mail the card unsigned, but a 8x10 autographed picture of Dan.

I was wondering when Dan was still playing did he sign autographs at camps and games?

He must get a ton and I mean a ton of fanmail asking for autographs. Not sure if he signs anything, but many years ago, up here in Jersey, they used to have a Cadillac NFL Golf Classic. For a few years, Marino participated in it, and one year, I got lucky and got his autograph. He had hundreds and hundreds of people following him, so he didnt sign alot, but I was one of the lucky ones. I have his signature on a hat, with about 35 other autographs. I also have the entire collection of mini riddell football helmets, so I would bring a few of them every year, and have some of them signed from players too. If only I had Marinos signature on that.

Thats just as good. Any Dan autographed memorabilia is awesome. Actually better that he did not sign the card. If you don't have documentation that it is an authentic signature on the card, it would have lowered the value of it. Not that I or anyone else with a Dan rookie card would ever consider selling it.

i have a Dan Marino rookie card its kinda my brothers.... but i still consider it mine lol!!!

Signed my oldests son's ticket stub. Did it with a big smile and a "Thanks for coming out".
That's the only interaction we had. Not much but I thought it was pretty cool.

My wife, daughter and I had the previlage to attend the taping of one of Dan's TV shows. During commercials he would sign almost non stop, he even took time to talk to my daughter (five years old). There was a aftershow party that he mingled with everybody and we got a picture of him with my wife and daughter. Those opportunities were few and far between though, there was always a lot of security around him. The few years at the Orange Bowl though were easier to get autographs than at Joe Robbie. It was so cool when the players would just park in the lot with the rest of the fans and you could talk to them and get them to sign after the games. We can actually thank Jimmy Johnson for changing a lot of that atmosphere.

I was lucky enough to have been befriended by the Marinos when I still lived down in the Keys. Dan, and especially his wife Clair, are incredibly down to earth people, especially for who they are. However, seeing how the man was, and still is hounded everywhere he goes, I'm sure he can have a bad day or two. As far as camp goes, I never saw him go to the fence in front of the stands. It would have probably caused a public saftey hazzard.

when i was like 7 or 8 i think me and ym dad went fishing one sat morning and we went to our local baitshop (close to weston) and Dan was in their buying a bait bubbler(to keep his shiners alive longer) and i had his jersey on but he wouldn't sign it :(

But still loved him as a player. i didn't really care to much i mean he must get asked that so much. but still lil kid wearing his own jersey? he shoulda of done it. but i've heard he's an *******.

In regards to the original topic WAS HE FAN Friendly ? I loved His onfield Play...And I Am a True Fan......But You all decide . I think it was in '86 (please correct Me if that was not the year) when the players were on strike and they had substitute players to actually play the scheduled games . I went to one of the games . Outside the stadium before the game some of the striking players were pikiting . Marino was one of them , I walked over to see Him inbetween Myself and Marino was a little girl and Her Father . I happened to hear the little girl ask Dan "Mr. Marino can I have Your autograph ? " Dan replied "Are You going inside to see the Game ?" the girl said "Yes" Marino Said "NO" and walked away........I felt wow it wasn't like the father was asking only a little kid who does not know about strikes or scabes.....

he was a jerk to me when i met him when i was younger, i dont think ive heard any good stories about him (and i knew his kids too) even when hed go out to the north broward prep practices (his son was the back up qb) he would be an a-hole

He was very cool to me. I approached him after a game and I remember I had a football card and a blue Sharpie. When I gave him the card and marker, we were walking, and he didn't stop to sign it. So when I passed him the marker, it was open, and I ended up writing all over his hand because we didn't stop, and I was pretty friggin nervous!!! He was cool about it, and it turned out to be a great autograph.

I've been around him in the locker doom, at celebrity functions, and he even came to my house looking for jumper cables when his limo broke down. He's always been fan friendly to me and would sign anything I put in front of him. Of course I didn't overdo it. I once sat across the aisle from him at an Arena Football game (Miami Hooters) and for the first half he signed everything, but didn't get to enjoy the game. For the second half there was a security guard politely turning people away so he could watch the game. I'm sure the first half fans thought he was great and the second half fans thought the opposite. But give the guy a break...he deserves to live too. Also, at the same Arena game I was sitting with my friend and his young son who had a cast on his leg. We motioned to Dan if we could come over and take a picture (this was during the 2nd half) and he motioned back that he'd come to us. He got up, walked past the security guy and put his arm around my friends son to pose for a picture. Classy guy in my book.

I actually met Dan at a Franklin Sporting Goods promotion back in 1989. It was at a Sports Authority store in Virginia. He was extremely friendly. We talked a little about the upcoming season/team. He signed a number of items and posed for pictures (all free of charge). All of this with a long line of fans waiting to visit with him. I remember him taking time with each fan. No rushing them through.
