Was last seasons Number 6 ranked defense just a mirage??!! How can the same fricken defense be so damn pathetic?? How were the Patriots so much more ready then us?? Why did the Patriots look like they were so much more physically fit then the Dolphins??

Mike Nolan defenses always show drastic improvement in Year 1 under him, and they always falter and look worse in Year 2.

This defense will NOT be as good as last year's D, and you can take that to the bank.

Everybody was relying on this defense being a surefire Top 5 or Top 3 defense this year. But I'm sorry, that won't happen as other teams gameplan for them better, and the natural regression without any real improvements., I said all offseason long how this team needs another really good pass rusher at OLB opposite Wake and more good players in the secondary. Tonight we saw the reasons why

Resting on your laurels on this defense this year was a very bad mistake. And i started threads on the importance of adding more good players to this defense if you want to see it get to the elite level (or even see it ranked 6th as it was last year).

I see this defense being ranked anywhere between 10th and 20th this year (depending on injuries). People think adding Odrick, Edds and Will allen to the D this year was huge. Well, the truth is just about every defense has injuries (look at the packers last year with a decimated defense for most of the season but they had some good depth, ets).. And AJ Edds and Allen are gone anyway, so much for that huh??.

The bottom line is who knows, you may see 5 or 6 injuries on the D this season (look at the O-line last year and how decimated that unit got with injuries). Adding some good defensive p-layers this offseason was a priority in my eyes.. Look at Vontae, he missed most of the game out with an injury tonight, and other guys nicked up missing plays. IF Wake goes down, we have zero pass rush and this secondary (especially the safeties) will get eaten alive.,

It happens.

Aside from adding Burnett, who isn't a complete player, this defense wasn't upgraded at all. And they needed upgrades if they wanted to keep the same ranking this year

If your using the broncos as an example, the only reason why their defense sucked the second half of season 2 under Nolan is because Josh McDaniels interfered with Nolan's gameplanning.

Sad but true. Not sure I can take anyone serious completely writing off the defense after one game against the best offense in the NFL when it's really no different than the performances against NE last year.
