Since the offseason started I've noticed here at finheaven we keep revisiting old mistakes and blunders of the Wanny, Saban, and Cameron times of the phins. Well I am no different.

Ricky Williams was traded to us for a 1st round pick in 2002 (25th pick overall) and a conditional 3rd round pick in 2003 which ended up being a first round pick in 2003 (18th pick overall in 2003). So I propose a question...

Was Ricky worth it?

With all the drama, suspensions, 1800+ yard season, this years GREAT season....and yes it was a GREAT season for a backup RB...was he really worth what we gave up for him....

No. He has a gret year when he was getting over 30 touches a game. But to give up potentially to game changing players in the first for 3 good years is not worth it. Especially after his retirement when he sent our franchise into a turmoil. So my vote had to go in the No because there is very few that are worth a two firsts. Only franchise quarterbacks are worth that because what makes a great runningback is a great o line

while I would agree nobody is worth two first rounders. had the deal worked out in our favor, a first and third, I may have voted otherwise.

had he not been suspended and retired etc etc... and put up comparable numbers to his standout year with us, I would have wholeheartedly voted yes.

I'm not sure what he is going to make next year, but given the fact that a deal was made so quickly, I would have to assume it's a fair contract for the franchise, and one RW is happy with himself. So I guess, what were paying him now, is more important to me, as we can't turn back the clock.

go PHINS!!

i wonder who the saints drafted with those two first round picks.

NO took Charles Grant in 2003 and traded the 2004 to the cards who took calvin pace.

lmao at anyone voting yes. i demand someone defend their vote. thats ludacris

No one is worth two first round picks.

Not true at all...

1st round picks can have a high salary or an outrageous salary. If they live up to their pay. Then it takes a very special player to be worth 2 starters.

But if only ONE of them pan out...which is the case for most NFL 1st rounders. Then it would be worth it 10 out of 10 times.

Here is a SHORT list of players worth 2 first round picks. Not saying they are the only players...just a couple that fit the mold easily.

Not in order...

1) Tom Brady
2) Payton Manning
3) Larry Fitzgerald
4) Adrian Peterson
5) Nnamdi Asomugha
6) Ed Reed
7) Troy Polamalu
8) Patrick Willis
9) Andre Johnson
10) Drew Brees

7 of the above could be the best at their position in the NFL.

Hell right now based on the early play of Jake Long...maybe even him as of RIGHT NOW. Left Tackles are prize possessions in the NFL. There is about 3-4 of them that could keep this list going.

If every team could draft the BAP for that pick every time...No player could be worth 2 picks. But the fact is that most teams miss more often than they hit after the TOP 15 picks. Take a look at the teams over the last 2 years in the first round. Then see how many of them would trade those two players for one of the above players.

Miami would not fit the mold...they drafted #1 overall and landed at LT for years to come. They also paid him the most ever for a LT...

However most teams would pull the trigger for one of the above players in a heartbeat.

Miami has the 25 pick this season. There is no player coming out that might still be on the board is a thought to be as good as Nnamdi Asomugha. So this years first for him would be easy to trade. But it will take yet another pick. That is where the trade gets a little tougher to swallow. We still have to give him the HUGE contract. Then we lose out on hopefully another 25-32 pick next season. It does become easier to swallow b/c the Fins have 2 2nd round picks this season.

The bottom line...

Ricky was not worth two picks...b/c of the drug thing.

Nnamdi Asomugha would be worth 2 picks from a team drafting 25+ for the next two years in the 1st.

Considering who was doing the drafting, Miami made out like badits on the Ricky trade, issues and all! Ricky ran for almost 1900 yards his first season in Miami and 1300 his second with the Dolphins. Two of the best seasons we've seen from a RB since Zonk was runnin people over. DW would have just pissed those first round picks away, Ricky lived up to the hype his first two seasons and only when Ricky saw a third season of DW running him to death with zero help from any other offensive position, did he decide to quit.

Well i was praying that the players that N.O. Picked were terrible but in the 2002 Draft with the number 25 selection the saints picked Charles Grant. it gets a little more grey after that. The Saints traded up in the first round to draft DT Jonathan Sullivan And in the fourth round i dont know if it was the actuall dolphins supplied pick but the dolphins gave them a fourth round pick in the 2002 draft they picked G Montre Holland. The last thing i want to share is in the 2002 Draft the dolphins also drafted C Seth McKinney which i believe was the pick from the saints.

so 3000 rushing yards is worth 2 first to you?

thats just ridiculous

i dont care how bad of a drafter wanny was, its still 2 first round picks. who knows, he may have hit on them.

If Jake Long is worth 2 1sts...

Then Ryan Clady must be worth 2 1st's...and a 6th...

Miami could have had Fred Taylor for less than the gave up for the crackhead...

Well I also consider the fact that DW played a major role in RW's decision to quit the game. I consider the fact that Rick while healty and on the field has been a teriffic teammate. I also consider the fact that without Ricky, Ronnie is injured and out of football games cause to this point he hasn't shown the ability to be an every down back who can stay healthy. So there is more to the Ricky deal than 3000 yards.
