did they have Sean Smith covering Andre Johnson for a majority of the game today? AJ really didnt do much the 2nd half. Smith tipped that one pass while he was covering Johnson, the one Gibril dropped. Im just curious if they had him on him all day. I know we were doubling him a bunch of times, who else did they have on him? Nate Jones? a safety? i couldnt tell...

On a different note, Smith really needs to work on his tackling this offseason though, for real. He needs to learn how to break down and tackle how your supposed to. Go back to the fundamentals of tackling because he really is a poor tackler. I dont expect him to tackle like Vontae or anything like that, i know hes more of a coverage guy and alot of corners arent great tacklers but i see him miss alot of easy tackles. He arm tackles alot and he throws his body around and doesnt wrap up.

I agree, he shows upside in coverage, but he's one of the worst tackling corner backs I've ever seen.

Tackling as a whole in the nfl has suffered a huge setback. They had a piece on it a few weeks ago in a pregame show.

well considering you get flagged for pretty much everything, you pretty much have to cradle the guy and cushion the blow as he falls to the ground or you might wind up with a 15 yard unneccesary roughness penalty.

Yeah it was smith covering AJ for the most part, but there was times when Nate Jones had the assignment when AJ would line up in the slot. Smith did ok in coverage, but, holy crap, does he need to work on tackling; on second thought, this whole team needs to work on tackling.

i agree, we looked pitiful in the first quarter today. It was embarrassing watching them try to tackle. Something needs to be done because its not just today that the tackling was bad, this is a recurring theme.

The defense has done pretty decent at stopping the run this year, for the most part. Too many times we let guys get extra yards with sloppy tackling. Gibril Wilson plays patty cake with Shockey for 30 yards. I mean cmon, thats embarrassing. Smith has been bad at tackling all year. Ive seen LBs get sloppy. Today Ayodele did it like 4 times.

Overall as a team this year i feel like we've been sloppy. IDK what Sparano does at practice but he needs to correct these errors. This stuff is fundamentals. You learn how to tackle in pee wee. Clemons shouldve been playing weeks ago. Gibril Wilson is just the worst. I seriously hate that guy. I want him off this team so badly.

Both rookies have played better than Gibril Wilson.

whoever was covering johnson in the second half should be nominated for sainthood because the guy was shut out

I believe it was mostly Sean, and then the rest were Jones

if sean smith shut out andre johnson for a half of football, things are very bright for this football team

houstons play calling was very conservative in the second half. they were just trying to kill the clock. i wouldnt go handing out awards

Smith had the majority of the coverage on Johnson throughout the game. No question he is very good in coverage.

even so, you still have to cover Andre Johnson, conservative play calling or not so im not really sure what your trying to say?

im saying they were just throwing short in bound passes to keep the clock running.they werent trying to go deep every set like they usually do.

I agree with your point, but if Johnson had completely outmatched his defense then Schaub would have hit him, regardless of conservative plan or not. When Johnson is on he seems to get wide open and no QB would overlook that.
