Looking back at the 2005 top 5 draft class, could you say it was the worst top 5 ever?

We had braylon alex smith and ronnie to choose from. Alex smith was our pick but the 9ers took him.in what I would say is the biggest but of all time. Caddy won roy but he suffered a possible career enDing knee injury. Benson is out of the nfl. That leaves us with braylon who is a good but inconsistemt player and ronnie who never became the franchise back he should have become. Injuries aside he was the safest pick at 2 but don't think he has panned out to what he was projected to be

I'm very much happy with Ronnie over the other four...Edwards would be nice, we could have taken him....
But why keep looking back to the past?
Alex Smith is not the biggest bust in history, akili smith, tim couch JASON ALLEN (haha just kidding)

Ryan Leaf?

Tim couch did more then alex smith did and smith was not one overall. Neither was leaf. I bring it up because if it was a better class we would have had a better prospect then ronnie. He's good but not a franchise player

Ronnie Brown and Braylon Edwards have both been great players, and have only improved each year.

worst top 5 draft probably the 1992 draft.

Great, wow you really stretch that definition. Brown has been good at best.

The basis of this thread assumes that because there are 2 guys that are definate busts (Cedrick Benson and Alex Smith), that the 2005 (top 5) draft must be "the worst ever". But history shows that basically every draft has at least 1 bust in the top 5, and most have 2 busts. In fact, clicking around this site http://www.finheaven.com/forums/f2/r...ck-229215.html the 1989 draft looks like the best, as it includes 4 HOF players. But it also includes Tony Mandrich who might be one of the biggest busts in NFL history.

Then I think your analysis Braylon is off. Edwards is one of the top 10 most talented WRs in the NFL. You point to his innconsistancy. But IMO, that has more to do with who is throwing him the ball. If he had Brady, Peyton, McNabb, Favre, Rothlis-something, Rivers, Rodgers, ect, it is not far-fetched to say he would be the best WR in the NFL.

The other assumption you must be making is that Ronnie Brown and Caddilac are bust, but IMO the jury is still out on that one. When these two are on top of their games they proved they can be top 10 talent at RB. Even if neither elevate their game to level they once showed, the 2005 top 5 is not the worst ever. If you dont believe me click through that link, and take a look at the 1992 draft.

HAHA...I agree

So funny I am at work and keep getting interupted. I keep getting interupted, so I have been working on my post for about an hour and a half...But as you can I agree with you on the 1992 draft.

Ronnie has been great at times. But overall your right. He has been good at best. So the jury is still out on Ronnie and it is way too early to call '05 (top 5) the worst of all time.

How times have changed, you will probably never see 3 RB's taken in the first five picks again.

Tim Couch, Akili Smith and Ricky Williams went in the top 5 of the 1999 draft. Ricky had some solid years and was a pro-bowl runner, but he certainly didn't live up to the hype of his Texas days.
