IN the grand hierarchy of past Defensive Coach, Olivadotti, Arnsparger, Bates, Wanny et al. Who was your favorite/best? I have to go with Arnsparger. Bates would be slotted just ahead of Olivadotti. One rung up the ladder from the bottom of my list. Your thoughts?

You're missing Chuck Studley, who was far worse than Bates (who is overrated himself).

Chuck Studley was the WORST that I've seen since 71. Olivadotti was a step up. That's how bad Studley was.

Yes, he was awful. Unfortunately Olivadotti was only half a step up. Which is why after the horrible 86-88 campaigns, the defense got a bit better and we actually made it to the playoffs again in 90 and to the AFC championship in 92. But, of course, still not good enough to do any real damage.

Olivadotti was as frustrating as defensive coordinator as Wanny was as head coach! I kept waiting for Shula to pull the plug, but he never would. It was just like waiting for Huizenga to pull the plug on Wannstedt. Luckily for Dolfans, Wannstedt resigned.

I remember wishing many days that Olividatti would step down and away because he caught Ghonnorhea.

My disgust with Wanny is the only lower rung on the ladder

Hard to tell if Bates fits in the top or the bottom. It is hard to say if he was a product of stellar players, or if the players were developed in his system.

Shula's only fault was loyalty

Many is the time I wished Shula would pull the plug on Olivadotti. Shula was unwaveringly loyal to most of his staff. I am glad we won't be playing anymore Vanilla defensive schemes in the future, Aggression is nice and exciting too.

Good Lord those Studley defenses couldn't tackle. Just a bunch of arm grabbing and DBs who couldn't cover. Absolutely pathetic.

YES!!! He took the phrase bend but don't break to an all time low level.

THOMAS OLIVIDOTTI was THE worst DC IN the HISTORY of organized football!!

Watching his 3 - 4 "read and react" was more pain than one could wish on their worst enemies.
