DENVER -- Unable to practice much or play at all during the preseason, Maurice Clarett will be released by the Denver Broncos later this week, his agent said Sunday.

Agent Steven Feldman said Clarett, the troubled running back who the Broncos surprisingly chose in the third round of this year's draft, will be released when the Broncos make their first round of cuts.

"They didn't contact me, per se," Feldman said in a telephone interview with the Associated Press. "The kid called me and let me know they're going to let him go."

Broncos spokesman Jim Saccomano said the team didn't plan to release anybody until Tuesday.

I was surprised to hear that Adam Schefter reported on Total Access a few days ago that Denver was most likely going to release Clarett and that he took a contract where he would have no signing bonus but LOADS of incentives adding up to a total of 7 million I believe. But he said Denver was going to release him because he's been a disappoinment and that they felt they made a mistake in drafting him and also because it wouldn't cost them any money releasing him because of no bonus. I'm really surprised that it actually happened though....... I really do think that someone will pick him up.

haha, damn thats rough... wow thats a 3rd round pick thrown away, but they do have a bunch of backs already there... guess theres just no room for him...

I think Denver just has too many backs..Kinda like the Dolphins..Someone will most likely grab him.

Jacksonville needs a running back, but I doubt they'd look at him. Same goes for Chicago and Philly. To be honest, I think only the Raiders would seriously look at him.

Yeah he turned down a $400K signing bonus cause he figured he was as good as a 1st rounder and wanted the chance to make as much money. He is as thick as 2 short planks, What an idjiot!

I wonder how much money he has had to borrow as he has no real income from training camp. Someone will pick him up but I doubt he will ever do much, he wil be another Mandarich, all hype and no results.
