Watch This Taylor And Godchaux Highlight Reel From The Raiders Game:

The two of them are playing better than I thought they were. Nice analysis. My only question is are these cherry picked examples. What is the consistency of high level play?

They obviously don't make this sort of play EVERY time, but I've not seen the get blown off the ball either. They are playing very well overall.

^ agreed. Keep it going really important to have a force inside

5th & 6th round pick. No one should be complaining about the job Chris Grier has done overall.

edit: Keep in mind they were drafted in a year where all the analysts said it's a terrible year to draft DTs.
Dolphins have always done well with later round picks...especially the 5th round...seems to be gold for us going all the way back to Zach Thomas.

It the early rounds that seem to stump Grier and the scouting department. Although I think Gase was much more involved in the last draft since he was overruled so often in the 2017 draft and two of the players he wanted (David Njoku and Cooper Kupp) have proven to be pretty freakin good.

I wanted Njoku, too. He wanted Kupp? Damn. Would've been nice.

I have a a couple of questions and anyone can answer - In highlight 1, the center is blocking God on the numbers of his back - why is that not blocking in the back??? Is that because they engaged and then God tried to go around. In highlight 3, they called a slant to the left. I am assuming Burke made that call - how does Burke know to make that specific play call - distance to 1st, tendency...Is someone on the field allowed to change the play on D like many qb's can audible? Lastly, with highlight at 4:46, I noticed 52 flashes a look outside after the snap and then coming back to the qb, I assume, but 47 keeps his eyes on their qb the whole time? Why does 52 do that? Why doesnt 47 look outside too!! Is someone not doing what they are supposed to do there?

Sorry for the ignorance - never got to play football in an organized manner. Pop Warner was too far to travel to in the mid 70s, and my high school dropped football when I was in 6th grade. So any help understanding mindset, positioning would be helpful, and a big thanks to the OP for breaking it down a bit for the ignorant.

Basically it's due to the free blocking zone where some things are illegal outside of the zone are allowed https://www.nchsaa.org/sites/default/files/attachments/12256.ppt

We don't hear Phillips name a lot. I thought he might take the next step, but Godchaux and Taylor are balling out. Guess Phillips is relegated to being good depth. Maybe I am just seeing it wrong.
