The Guy has unbelievable ball skills but he cannot tackle! I don't mean he doesn't lay the smack down, I mean his technique is terrible. One play he is on his knees and the guy jumps over him. One play he runs up into the lane and appears to just push on the running back when another defender gets a hold of him.

Hopefully he is not forced to do too much in run support because he just is not physical enough right now to be a factor. I still believe in him as a corner and some of the best corners in the league are not run stoppers (please no Deon comparisons just yet)

Anyone else notice this during the pre-season?

the play where he was on his knees, he was knocked down... he did anything he could to try to get the ballcarrier... you cant expect much from him there...

but hes not much of a tackler... but as long as hes a good cover corner, and a playmaker we can live with that

Good point I had seen that as well. Vontae Davis and Will Allen played better hopefully he will improve as the season goes on.

I guess we can watch him on Sunday and see if he hurts us. I am really pulling for him because I believe our secondary can make or break this team.

Neon Deion couldn't tackle well either. Just sayin.

The Bucs were running sweeps to Smith's side all day when their first team was playing.

anyone remember when giants qb dave brown lowered the boom on prime time? but if the dude keeps making one handed picks in the endzone i don't care if he doesnt have one takle all season long.

Geez... I even posted to please not compare him to Deon!

I hope you're right though. Only problem is a lack of speed.
He may not be Deion fast, but he did still run in the 4.4 range. Not exactly something to sneeze at.

Bottom line is we need a healthy Vontae to have his head screwed on straight because he was a first round pick for a reason! I feel good about Gibril Wilson back there with Y. Bell and Smith manning a corner spot opposite Will Allen. When you have the studs up front that we do, that takes alot of pressure off of the corners and safeties and allows them to play much more aggressively.

It's nice to have a corner who can tackle, like Vontae, but to me the most important job of the CB is to stop the passing game. If you have a corner who can't cover well but can tackle, he is still going to get burnt all day for big pass plays. Even if the defense runs right at him, our other guys like linebackers and safeties should be there to help.

That was well known he was not a tackler. He always played on the other side of the ball.
He also is not some pro bowl corner like some of us are making it sound he looked a little lost by Leftwitches arm. His hands are crazy he moves really well for a 6"3-6"4 guy. But he is not a all pro just yet.
