I saw a commercial on the World Cup, with a guy having the match recorded, and he avoids all talk at work, driving home avoids talk at the toll booth, takes out his car radio, gets home and tells his neighbor not to talk. Finally, walks into his house, and his little daughter comes running to him screaming "Daddy, Daddy, WE WON!!!" He was devastated. lol

Years ago, had to work a Sunday when Miami was playing. Told the guys on the job that if anyone told me what happened in the game, they would be fired, went out the back to avoid people, and finally got home knowing nothing. The wife greeted me with "Great win, you must be so happy, and can't wait to watch it.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone else?

Nope. I care too much and have to know what's happening in that exact moment. I can't fathom having to watch a recorded game and cutting myself off from the world in order to keep it a secret from myself. I'd rather not be able to watch for some reason and someone tell me what's happening than watch something that has already happened.

I only watch recorded sporting events now. Its not for everyone and I've been spoiled/missed endings many times but I save so much time its well worth it. Also don't have to skip out on family events. My chances of getting spoiled are greatly reduced though as most of my family doesn't pay attention to sports and there aren't many Dolphin fans in my neck of the woods anyway.

I come up with any excuse to get me out of work or family **** in order not to miss a dolphins game. Close to a 15 year streak not missing a game

I skipped turkey day dinner in 06 to watch the fins and lions and the same for the last time we played the cowboys. My mother and wife were not happy. Dedicated

can't tell you the last time i watched a game actually live...any sport for that matter

My sister got married on a Sunday when the Dolphins were playing the Bengals.

Guess who bailed on her reception shortly after it began? Not a care was given either.

For me, that was the only one in over 20 years but, had no choice. We were building a supermarket in CT for Wild Oats, and they had released all their advertising (TV included) for a Grand Opening before checking with me. We worked 60-70 hours a week to get it done, and did it.

Very interesting. Do you know the result when you do watch?

nope...it's usually i start it on delay...ie game at 1pm dvr records it i start watching at 3pm...night game i'm like 30 minutes behind live so i can buzz thru commercials etc...

doesnt matter what sport it is...avoid my phone avoid the tv etc til i watch...works like a charm...its why i get off here oncce the game starts on game days cause i dont want to know anything

The only time one should watch a recorded game is for the purposes of "putting on the tape" or "breaking down the film".

Watching recorded games is only for true gurus and the poors.

Your methods seem to be working like a charm.

That one was too easy. Shouldnt even count really.

i dvr every game so i can rewatch later in the week. i have had to record two or three games since dvr technology was invented because i absolutely couldn't see the game live (out of the country in a location where i couldn't find the game on tv each time).

i got lucky every time. able to avoid any mention of the game until i got home, and then, even if it was 3 o'clock in the morning, watch it as if it were on live (because if I went to bed without watching it, there would be no way to avoid finding out what happened the next day).

I'm at the point I almost can't imagine watching anything live. I have days worth of World Cup games on tape, with no idea of the results. I stash the sports pages in a closet and read them after I've watched the event. Occasionally I stumble onto a result when it shows up somewhere I'm not expecting it. That can be incredibly annoying. But overall I have the system down pat. My friends and relatives know not to bother me, other than one lady. She has a habit of calling at the end of a game. I know exactly what it means.. She never calls when the team loses. The game has ended in our favor so she excitedly wants to review the details. Often I'm still watching the third or fourth quarter when she calls. So now the phone is in the other room, and on silent.

I vary depending on the sport. For the NFL with everything bunched I'll start watching maybe a half hour or 45 minutes after kickoff. That enables me to nearly catch up to real time at the end of the game, while missing all the commercials. For other sports like golf tournaments I start considerably later. I was still watching the Masters or US Open final round nearing midnight, many hours after conclusion.

I have no interest in twitter or social media. That makes it incredibly easy to do it this way. I imagine it would be more problematic for younger fans who grew up with texting or similar need to communicate nearly non stop.

The Olympics are a problem, depending where they are being held. Sometimes it's a delay of 10-12 hours or more before the prime time telecast. On weeks like that I play extra golf. Nobody is feeding me news I don't want to hear on the golf course.

I've learned which radio stations can be trusted. I never listened to much FM radio before I needed to avoid results. Now I default there. The top of the hour is troublesome, regardless of the station. I have to turn off the radio approaching the top of the hour. For huge events the newscasts often lead off with a sports result.

I still remember one example when it all went wrong. In 1990 I flew from Las Vegas to meet my parents and younger sister in Europe. We traveled together for more than 3 weeks. It was a World Cup year. On the day of the England/Germany semifinal, I emphasized repeatedly that the top priority was avoiding the result. The replay was scheduled for 8 PM on BBC. We would be back to our bed and breakfast in time to watch, without knowing the result. Everything went great until my sister made a brief detour from our group. When she returned, she blurted out the result. I still have a difficult time believing it. Our theme all day was to avoid the result, and not to say anything to others in case we heard it accidentally. My sister knew all about that and had assured us all day that she would do so, and not make a mistake. Then somehow it all went wrong. My dad was flabbergasted. He confronted my sister and was more upset than I was. We were more disappointed than angry.

That topic later became a family joke. My father was still talking about it not long before he died in 2012.

At this moment I'm avoiding LPGA golf results. I have tons of matchup wagers. I'll watch the tape later tonight. I taped two World Cup games today and will get to them within a few days. I only watch the USA games on the same day, within close proximity to live, because I know there's no way to dodge that result.
